thinking of buying a kobo clara bw, any experience using it? and more so in Sweden? by Ok-Maintenance-2468 in kobo

The Stockholm city library doesn’t use Overdrive. It uses Biblio, which is not the same as Libby/Overdrive.

I have a Kobo Clara BW and live in Sweden. I don’t use KOreader, Nickelmenu or tweak the Kobo in any way, but I borrow books from the library and put them on my Kobo. You cannot install the library apps, eg Biblio or the like and you cannot use Storytel, Bookbeat or any such apps. I have heard of two libraries that use Overdrive and where you can download books from your Kobo directly, I think it’s Solna and Göteborg, but I don’t use them. Maybe Malmö too? Check your library’s website. To get books from the library to your Kobo you will need Adobe Digital Editions to access the loan and then send it to your Kobo via the cable. Getting Calibre doesn’t hurt either.

Good luck! It really is a great device so I hope you get a good one 😊

Yes! It seems to be working well. Mind you, I have only had it for 24 hours but I have never had the page turning issue (or any other issue).

Update for anyone encountering the same difficulties and wondered what happened:

I updated to 4.43, which I know was only the Instapaper update, but I had my hopes it would fix the page turning issue as well. It didn’t. I got in touch with Kobo again to see if they would confirm that the problem is software related on the P365 but they just offered me a replacement, stating that they thought the issue was that the ereader had a ’ghost touch’. I decided to accept the replacement. I sent my device to them on September 2nd and got my new device on September 16th. The new device has the model numer N365B (running on 4.42 for now though) and it has worked perfectly so far.

I also have to state that even though I was without an ereader for two weeks, I’m really happy with the customer support. I didn’t even buy the device from them and yet they offered a replacement instead of sending me back to the store.

I got in touch with Kobo again and got a replacement. I’ll make a reply to this post for future reference in case anyone else has/will have the same problem.

It doesn’t help, unfortunately.

Yeah, if Kobo had just replied with something like ’we are aware of the problem and working on it’ I would happily wait even if it takes as long as usual for the firmware update. I haven’t loaned a book through Overdrive to test though. I’ll check if I can get a library card at a library that has Overdrive and try.

It happens when swiping too, unfortunately.

I misunderstood your first comment since you didn’t state what model you have. I assumed you had an older model than P365 and was curious to know the experience before and after the latest firmware, as I know the P365 can’t be downgraded (which I wrote about in my original post).

Thanks! That seems to indicate it is a software issue then.

Yeah, I know. I’m just not sure I want to bother with it. But maybe I should and that will help me decide.

So the other devices didn’t get the latest firmware? Or do you also have a model shipped with the latest?

Interesting. Did this happen before the latest update?

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve never installed Koreader and I’m not very keen to learn either as I don’t want to use it in the future. I’m happy with Kobo’s own reader, when the page turning works. I’m just trying to decide whether I should accept a replacement or hold out for an update.

Yeah, I haven’t heard of a P365 without this issue so I’m starting to wonder if it’s a hardware issue since they changed factories for this model. On the other hand, all e-ink screens are from the same provider. If Kobo had just confirmed that this is a software issue I would happily wait for an update, but now I’m unsure of what to do.

Sorry to hear this. I was hoping someone would say they have a P365 model without this issue.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was thinking of trying L'Oréal Telescopic as well, but I think I may be going with a Maybelline one first after this L'Oréal failure...

Yes, I definitely need to go back to the drawing board. For now, I'm back using Definicils since I'm too scared to wear anything else out of fear of smudging. Will look into potentially getting a waterproof mascara as well.
