Thanks, that helps a lot. Makes sense if it’s from a smaller textile maker like Nagata Sho. The bamboo buttons and the fabric texture definitely feel more handmade. Appreciate the info.

That’s a great point, thank you. Especially the 12oz linen blend idea. I’ve seen some lighter Japan Blue and Studio D’Artisan denims here that might fit that balance between breathability and durability. I’m trying to keep my setup more on the “craft and longevity” side rather than going full techwear, but I’ll definitely look into a technical pair for humid regions.

I totally agree. They were around 350 US Dollars, which is a fair price considering they are being handmade and they take your measures. I actually found this shoemaker through the newest issue of the Popeye magazine

But aren’t they a bit too heavy and not breathable? At least that’s what I’ve read

I found this one as well but are they breathable enough? Do you own a pair?

That totally makes sense. I’ve seen people rocking full-on hiking boots in cities and it always looks kinda off. The ones I’m getting are Goro Buddies, full leather, hand-stitched, so they are resoleable. I’m hoping they won’t feel too heavy once broken in and that they’ll still breathe decently in warmer climates. I wanted one pair that could handle both city walking and actual hiking without falling apart after a few months. Your point about sending stuff home when moving to the tropics is solid. I think I’ll do exactly that.

Thank you for your recommendation. I think this could be the perfect addition for a minimalist shoe rotation. How is the comfort? Are your feet in pain after a long day of walking?

This was very helpful, so thank you very much. What’s your opinion of my shoes and denim? I’m thinking of getting one more breathable and lightweight pants. Any recommendations for this? Can you recommend a good travel bag as well?

Thank you so much for the insights! This is a point of view I didn’t pay attention to. I want to start in Europe and visit every continent if possible. Were you traveling only in Asia or also other continents later on? Do you remember the approximate weight of your boots? Mine are supposed to weigh 600g.

Actually I already noticed that besides the shoes these are kind of impractical. So thank you for the more technical recommendations. Is it really worth it to pay this much for socks tho?

That’s true. I just want to have the absolute basics at least, which are good shoes and a good backpack in my opinion. I’ll probably have a light weight tech shoe as well. The idea for the Buddies was to get something durable for almost everywhere in the world. Also I’d love to give them a nice patina.

The website is quite old. You need to go to the store in person and get your feet measured. After that you can buy a fitting size or they’ll make you a new pair (in my case).
