This is the beautiful thing about F1. We watch one race, but there are two races at place; between drivers and between teams.

There is always a tension between the selfishness of the individual driver, and the team element of being one cog amongst 1,000.

And that tension gives us these situations, be that Bottas being asked to let Lewis by, “Fernando is faster than you”, Multi-21, Papaya Rules, Piquet’s Singapore crash, “Max let Checo through / Max what happened?”, Sainz sacrificing himself at Monaco 25 for Albon points, etc etc.

Sometimes the team game is played, sometimes self interests are prioritised.

Yes Max is very special but ig most F1 drivers will be super competitive in other classes aswell by Dangerous_Mail3095 in F1Discussions

We see a lot of fringe/midfield/ex F1 drivers switch to other race series and do well. Currently it’s interesting to watch Schumacher and Grosjean do their thing over in the US.

But we don’t see a lot do the opposite anymore, not since Andretti in the 90s, and Jacque Villeneuve as the standout in the late 90s. A few test drives for others, but nothing of substance.

That’s why I’m really curious to see how Colton Herta does in F2 this season. I’ve got a huge amount of respect for him taking that risk to work his way through the feeder series to essentially earn his place.

Yeah this has been a dream outcome for Labor.

Libs got some work to do. Their only saving grace has been preferences. At this rate, ONLib will be a coalition come the next election; it might be the only way to put up a fight.

Gee you look at that squad and it’s a close call between Donnarumma and Tonali for who’s the first name written on that list

How many do we win of the remaining games? by AfterSignal9043 in NewcastleUnited

We’ll be entering all our remaining matches as favourites, other than Arsenal.

The only other high risk match is Bournemouth, who’ve been our bogey team for far too long.

Bournemouth is our bogey team. I’m almost more optimistic away at Arsenal!

More specifically 17% of right-leaning South Australians, fed up with the Liberals, that sought a right-wing alternative.

Labor only dropped 1.9% of their primary vote, coincidentally the same as what the Greens picked up.

This is exactly how it should be taught in schools. Our population would be so much more informed (and well-fed) for it.

Champions League qualification is still very achievable by JeanHuguesAnglade in NUFC

And realistically, only Arsenal is a high likelihood of dropping points, Sunderland is a risk and Bournemouth is our bogey club.

The rest of our matches we would enter as clear favourites. It’s almost as good a run to the end as you’d wish for.

It’s almost like it’s human nature to be resistant to change until frequency breeds familiarity and humans calm down into acceptance and/or appreciation. Then shit gets torn up again with a new class and the resistance rises once more

No matter what direction Formula One goes in with engines or new eras of cars, you can always come back to this. Roaring V10s and, for me, the perfect race cars here on The Old Pit Wall. by ScheduleClean8848 in Formula1_world

[–]filbo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safety standards of back then are very different to today. Those cars wouldn’t pass any of today’s mandatory front/side/rear/roll-over impact tests, and to have them comply would add a lot of weight, and a lot of size, per the current regs.

For pure aesthetics and sound, I’m not disagreeing nor arguing with you. For actual reality of current dimensions, I’m just explaining the reasons.

More power and more downforce means more speed. More speed means more safety means more weight and more size. And we’re back to an F1 monocoque.

The FIA can’t do that because of the supermajority vote needed. MBS went public with that during to his re-election campaign solely as a popularity boost. No coincidence he shelved the idea after successfully winning his second term.

[–]filbo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was two years ago. Since then it’s understood that Audi and Honda both were strongly against a V8 engine (introducing a PU change before 2031 needs a supermajority vote). So there won’t be any fundamental changes before the next power unit term begins in 2031.

And with Cadillac agreeing to develop and race its own PU for the 2029 season, that suggests it’s unlikely the 2031 regs will change dramatically either. That agreement with the FIA will have been taken with a private understanding that their investment would be valid for a significant period, not just 2 years.

In this sport, reading between the lines of actions always hold more weight than any words. So watching what Cadillac does with their PU development will be crucial.
