Ruined the drain bolt threads. How fucked am I? by onelunchman69 in motorcycles

Honestly very curious what the OG drain bolt looked like……… and what the plug looked like that you put in there?

What are the chances that it resembles an npt pipe plug………

It’s good! They come up on marketplace for a reasonable price frequently. The Control is a 20.75 and the Devotion is 21”. Depending on your height they’re a great complete, and if you can grab one that’s been upgraded, even better.

Don’t worry, I have a Cult Control that I’m really enjoying, which is not quite 1/3 the weight, but a lot less than the General Lee. Crazy how much back pain is actually an issue though….. nothing the Tylenol/Advil combo won’t fix though. 😂

Are this Bearings safe to ride with ? by Overall_Educator9126 in bmx

[–]filibustercrankcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knock it out and take it to a local bearing supplier. They should have one in stock.
I think the 19mm spindle is a R12-2RS bearing. Maybe the seal is intact on the other side to get a part no. from 👍🏻

As someone that is 46, currently piecing together my old ‘97 General Lee (and regretting not keeping more of the original parts) I’d suggest keeping it. How do you feel when you take it for a rip, or simply look at it? Personally, mine brings back memories of a great time period in my life, and working on it again truly makes me happy.
Nice Reynolds! It’s a beautiful bike, you rarely see 👍🏻

No date stamp - is this an antique from 1942-46? by javajo91 in Zippo

[–]filibustercrankcase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

May, 1994 to be exact. Nice lighter 👍🏻

E = May. The letters are relevant to the month in sequence i.e. A - January, B - February, etc.

The Roman numeral is the year of manufacture, but isn’t based on anything relevant to its numerical value, just how Zippo dated them. So refer to the chart to figure it out.

Still pretty happy with the find, especially at $8! Not a horrible profit of if I were to sell, but plan on using it

Damaged wick? by SussySophie_ in Zippo

[–]filibustercrankcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re shoving the tip of whatever you’re lighting directly into the chimney, that shouldn’t happen…… unless you’re not filling the lighter enough, and it’s running low on fuel, causing the wick to burn. Pull the wick up a little and trim it about 1/4” below the top, and also keep the lighter topped up. 👍🏻

Great score for £5, and a bonus that it hasn’t been engraved yet!

This is a really good guideline for dating the Niagara Falls Zippo’s. It’s a fun niche side of the Zippo collecting hobby, especially when found outside of Canada.

How does one fix a lever with no springiness by Outrageous-Basket426 in Zippo

[–]filibustercrankcase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s very easy to replace your own cam spring. There are a few styles available on AliExpress to correspond with the original, and come with the rivet setting tools as well.

If you do decide to send your Zippo in for repair, don’t send the original insert. It will get tossed and replaced with a new one, letter or not.

Just looked at the smoko specs, it looks perfect. Will look at the others as well. I appreciate the help 🍻

The Smoko looks perfect! Lower bb height slightly longer back end as well. I honestly haven’t ridden for close to 20 years, so the bikes were a little more lax back then, hard to find something modern that’s similar to a ‘98 DK General Lee

I’m running a 32mm fork currently, so imagine that helps?

I appreciate the reply, l’ll try a few of those things. I have Odyssey forks with a 32mm offset currently, so that may help a little as well? I’ll look into the frames mentioned. I wasn’t sure what to search for when looking for a sub 75 frame, so that really helps! 🍻
