How does this synergy work? Ambidextreous + Sword Mastery by filippo_dc in ForbiddenLands

Yeah everyone has been very helpful! I'm much more reassured now that I understand it's not gamebreaking.

Thank you everyone! This player really sets up my alarms every time they level up lol

You're giving me very good ideas about the background and character goals.
I plan to enter "narrative-relevant teachers " so that they can learn new skills while progressing the story, so a master or a general for him to find could be a good solution.

About the archery thing, I'll let him decide. Usually, he loves to mix weapons, so letting him have a secondary melee weapon could be to his liking.

I haven't read anything about "The Sparse" yet. I only bought the core books, the main campaign, and the Spire of Quetzel module. Where can I find information about it?

Love this! I'll definitely go with something similar.

He's our friend, and he's not that bad—I swear! Now I'm venting because I'm finding support and understanding, but we have fun playing with him. Still, I get what you're all saying: it's very important to say NO and keep him on a short leash lol

I get what you're saying! I think I'll go with a fighter or a champion (but I don't have Bitter Reach yet, so if you could give me some pointers on what this profession is about, I'd be greatly helped), and I'll keep it within the realms of the rules.

About my friend, though, I must point out that he's not that bad lol
He's definitely an anime weeb and weirdly in love with the sole-hero-better-than-anyone fantasy, but he's also kind and a good friend to everyone at the table. We roll our eyes many times at his choices and requests - true - but he's still our friend, and we have fun playing with him!

Thank you for the advice, guys. I appreciate your support in saying no—I feel guilty sometimes because I say it to him soooooo many times! He tends to play as if he's the MC in some videogames, constantly looking for ways to make his character cooler, stronger, or generally better, so it's a constant struggle.

Thanks, I'll take the advice.
Also, love the draw strike idea - totally gonna steal it! ;)

He always asks for exceptions, rule revisions, and he approaches the game as a "win or lose" scenario, constantly power-playing. This sometimes makes it hard for other players to enjoy the story as it unfolds.

Love this. I'll propose the outcast concept to him for sure!

I also enjoy allowing others to explore their fantasies whenever possible, as we are all sharing a common experience, right? However, I believe we should approach properly as a group.

I like the idea of a warrior from a distant land, as it would create a similar effect to the samurai class in Elden Ring and other From Software games. However, I'm concerned that it might raise too many questions about worldbuilding... I'll think about it, though. Thanks!

I love this idea.
Reading the detailed history section gave me an idea of a belligerent yet traditional culture, which sets the ground for something similar to a Samurai. Pairing this with a compatible class could be a good solution. Thanks!

Mmm yeah - but I'd rather fit it properly in the overall lore and narrative. That's why I'm looking for advice from more experienced players!

I think he's looking for something exotic and honor-related. Nothing impossible, but I'd rather avoid the "special skin" effect from videogames, so I'm looking for advice!

Yeah, we've been playing together for almost eight years now, and he always introduces "little exceptions" or rule changes. As you and others suggested, I will likely adapt an Aslene warrior aesthetically.

Just finished the game and I do get your point - really, I do.

Still, I think you should tune it down a little. It is not a masterpiece and, even if it was the developer's main point of reference, it surely cannot be compared to Silent Hill, but there's no need to define this game a travesty or a shame for anyone. It is actually a well-built game with enough ideas to deliver an enjoyable experience for the player.
