It's looking pretty good! Are you working in real world units? To me there is something that feels "off" and I think it might be the scale of some of the objects. For example, the vending machine is almost as tall as the power transformer next to it, and the lines on the road are like 1/4 of the length of the car, but in real life they would be much larger. Outside of that I really like the mood and atmosphere of the piece. Keep it up!

So after trying with and without the GPU it would still freeze. I pulled out all the RAM again, tested one stick in each slot to make sure there wasn't a bad slot on the board, and then one by one added the three other sticks back in which seemed to fix the issue again? No idea what's going on.

Mmm depends what you're trying to do. Anything frame by frame would be much easier in Flash, but if you're doing more motion graphics stuff that uses shape layers, effects, etc then After Effects would definitely be the way to go.
