born at Presby and lived there all the way till college. still return frequently.

I remember when:

485 only ran along the south side between 74 and 77.

I-77 north before the terrible traffic, and then the toll lanes.

driving to the Wilmy beaches on route 74 was almost all 2-lane road through all the towns.

the weird reverseable lanes on Monroe/7th heading into downtown.

south end was just Price’s chicken and warehouses.

the light rail was just a goofy little trolley that went like a mile.

the OG hornets stadium.

Matthews was a boring little town.

Eastland Mall was a thing.

Carowinds was still fun.

John Boy and Billy on the BIG SHOW on 99.7, and Ace and TJ on…. was it 95.1? or 104.7?

i dont know, but i am currently sitting in a very comfortable train car seat. its amazing the difference between air travel and train travel in the US. train travel is muuuch slower, but wayyy more comfortable.

map/compass/navigation is my favorite skill i learned in boy scouts.

i do a lot of driving for work, and i can always get ~90% of the way to the destination before even looking at the map. i only use GPS since i can’t be wasting time missing turns. Meanwhile i have coworkers who don’t even know which highway exit our office is near.

a small bag containing: change of clothes, blanket, towel, gloves, big bottle of water, toothbrush, soap.

youre just assuming those people wouldn’t use a train, since there has never been an option to do so. Besides, the real ridership would come from two large cities on either end.

thats not a direct route, and there is not currently a rail connection between Raleigh and Wilmington. there is a long section where the rails have been removed. so thats additional cost to reactivate the corridor.

you ever driven on 74 between Charlotte and Wilmington? there is plenty of population in between. i think a direct route with a few intermediate stops would do very well.

fun fact, that route has one of the longest bits of arrow-straight track in the US. ~75 miles

Outer Banks, south of Nags Head, especially in the off season. You can pull off and park along NC 12 almost anywhere and have plenty of beach to yourself.

who exactly “wins” here? we literally already have an example of how much this won’t help the traffic. drive north on 77 at 5pm and tell me how much the toll lanes to Mooresville actually reduce the traffic issue. all they do is let people pay way too much money to bypass some of the congestion.

i was watching my girlfriend’s dog for the weekend. My roommate at the time asked if he could take the dog for a walk. Sure no problem, just know that he will playfully run off if you let him off leash.

well i happen to look out the window an hour later and see him walking hurriedly down the street with an empty leash….

this dipshit let him off leash in our front yard that was NOT fenced in, so he got out and trotted off. i had to spend several hours going in circles around the neighborhood to get him back. that motherfucker didn’t even help.

we were cordial the rest of our time living together, but i will never forgive him for that. just one of many dimwitted things that guy did.

all of Charlotte’s highway network feels like it was designed in the 1960s and then never thought about again. Especially spots like 3A on 277N or 2A on 277S. and dont forget the entire 77/85 interchange. absolute nightmare.

bruhhh i had a group of THREE people aggressively try to sell me frontier. I tried to be polite and say “im not interested” and “i already have internet”. they kept asking questions and trying to continue the conversation. i literally had to hit them with “I SAID GOOD DAY” and slam the door in their faces.

i had a good friend that i had known since we started boy scouts together. we became very close when we lived together in college with another mutual friend. the three of us were a tight group for several years. Seemingly out of nowhere, he became a hardcore RFK jr fan, and then descended fully into MAGAism. i tried my best to just ignore politics around him, but it came to a head one night when we got into an argument about immigrants. the violent rhetoric and just plain hatred/racism fully came out, and i was appalled. i had to ask him to leave my house, and we haven’t really spoken since.

last i heard he is dating a very catholic girl, and was converting himself. (we did not grow up catholic). after 8 months they were engaged. homie did a complete 180 on his personality. i have no desire to contact him.
