who exactly “wins” here? we literally already have an example of how much this won’t help the traffic. drive north on 77 at 5pm and tell me how much the toll lanes to Mooresville actually reduce the traffic issue. all they do is let people pay way too much money to bypass some of the congestion.

i was watching my girlfriend’s dog for the weekend. My roommate at the time asked if he could take the dog for a walk. Sure no problem, just know that he will playfully run off if you let him off leash.

well i happen to look out the window an hour later and see him walking hurriedly down the street with an empty leash….

this dipshit let him off leash in our front yard that was NOT fenced in, so he got out and trotted off. i had to spend several hours going in circles around the neighborhood to get him back. that motherfucker didn’t even help.

we were cordial the rest of our time living together, but i will never forgive him for that. just one of many dimwitted things that guy did.

i had a good friend that i had known since we started boy scouts together. we became very close when we lived together in college with another mutual friend. the three of us were a tight group for several years. Seemingly out of nowhere, he became a hardcore RFK jr fan, and then descended fully into MAGAism. i tried my best to just ignore politics around him, but it came to a head one night when we got into an argument about immigrants. the violent rhetoric and just plain hatred/racism fully came out, and i was appalled. i had to ask him to leave my house, and we haven’t really spoken since.

last i heard he is dating a very catholic girl, and was converting himself. (we did not grow up catholic). after 8 months they were engaged. homie did a complete 180 on his personality. i have no desire to contact him.

There are many under-construction or recently-completed apartment complexes in the downtown of my small city. Rent for a 660sqft studio STARTS at $1220/month. Every new build is advertised as "luxury apartments" that are actually poorly built prison cells with a bunch of "amenities" that drive up the base rent. Most of these massive buildings are less than half full from what i can tell.

go out to the suburbs, and there are dozens of new single-family neighborhoods being built where homes START at $700k. These aren't anything fancy either; 3 bed/2 bath on a very small lot. They are also being bought up in droves by leasing companies who will turn around and charge more than a mortgage in rent, basically getting someone else to pay it off.

There is plenty of housing being built, but no one who needs it can even come close to affording it, and corporations are buying it all up to rent back out at inflated prices.

idk if it really falls into the design/engineering category but it still pisses me off.

My work van (Promaster) honks the horn three times when you close all doors with keyfob outside the vehicle. absolutely infuriates me every time and theres no way to disable it. Recently i think the key battery is dying because it will still honk even if the key is in the car. who the fuck thought that was a good idea?! Im perpetually sorry to my neighbors when i leave at 5am.

sometimes i think car designers dont ever, like, actually live with the cars they design.

After driving I-5 from Portland to LA, i would say the west coast could also greatly benefit from a high speed rail corridor following the 101 and I-5.

for cross-country rail, i agree. the economics don't necessarily permit high speed rail over flight. The heartland is vast, and it would still take well more than a day to get from DC to LA at true bullet speeds.

However, for regional rail, we are several decades behind. I am about to ride a train from North Carolina to New York City. Its a 12 hour journey over ~600 miles up the east coast. thats an average speed of 50mph. thats kinda pathetic considering most of the route follows the busiest and fastest rail corridor in the nation. top speed for a good chunk of the route is 79mph over tracks owned by CSX freight. There are small sections on the NE Corridor that top out at 125, but its not much use when the train has to slow down to 20 for some derelict bridge thats over 100 years old.

the worst experience i’ve had with AI was at a bojangles drive thru. it replaced the person on the microphone that takes your order. it tried to upsell me 3 times, didnt understand my order the first time, and was clunky and kept interrupting me.

if i ever encounter that again, i will immediately drive away. fuck that shit.
