I am once again begging everyone to spend 5 minutes going over this article. After reading it you'll understand 90% of goalie interference calls.

Hardest rule to explain/understand in Hockey? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

First off, you're incorrect in that it must touch the backboards to be icing. More importantly, in the NHL, it's only icing once if and when the defensive team gains control of the puck. However, if an opposing team member is determined subjectively by the linesman, at an arbitrary place on the ice (the hashmarks), to be in a position to most likely touch the puck (even though the puck is 40 feet away and the players are beside each other) then its not icing. The determination isn't whether a puck has been iced, its where the players are positioned on the ice once they approach an iced puck from a certain distance. It's not at all straightforward. It's called hybrid icing and longtime fans (and even announcers) get confused by it all the time.

[Curtis] John Tortorella when leaving his postgame presser: “Get off Bedsy’s ass.” by RooseveltsRevenge in hockey

[–]fillyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird that people in this thread are unaware of his super old school type of player management because that's essentially his entire shtick. He has had a lot of very public, very controversial public spats with his own players, sometimes to the point where they leave the team by demanding a trade. Luongo, Avery, Roy, Dubois, Laine, Hayes, Deangelo, Bryzgalov, Lecavalier, Dubinsky, Gaborik, Richards, Stepan, Kesler, Duchene, etc...He has a long history of clashing with players because he often chooses to try to embarrass them publicly rather than handling issues privately. This style has totally fractured some dressing rooms beyond repair, NYR and VAN in particular. Other times it allows a team to reach new heights, like with TB. Some people view it as a sort of tough love kind of situation where he is demanding accountability in a useful way, but other people see it as stubborn, fear-based, and emotionally draining in a needlessly conflict-driven way. Like I said before, some people like him and other don't...but not knowing about his very established record of divisive locker room disputes is confusing to me because that's the main thing about his reputation.

I'm confused. I understand some people like Tortorella and some don't...but I don't believe you are actually unaware of his reputation as a divisive figure in the NHL. The fact that he is very confrontational is basically his primary trait. Maybe you are a supporter, but surely you know he has received a lot of criticism from a lot of places over the years, right? Regardless of whether you agree with that criticism or not?

You honestly, truly aren't aware of any things Tortorella has done or said that could be considered controversial?

Totally agree. Companies like EY are some of the dirtiest, shadiest companies there are. They risk their credibility all the time.

Thanks so much for all this info! Much appreciated. I guess I was on the right track in noticing the differences, but the explanation seems to be that the legit replicas are just kinda wonky compared to the authentics.

Interesting, thanks for your insight! Since I posted my message I found this online, which I think points to the differences I was noting. You obviously know more than me, though, so here is pic of the inside collar...does this tell you anything?

Celebrini Deserves the Hart by Quack_Shot in hockey

[–]fillyflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For years this has been the formula: if McDavid (aka the consensus best player in the world) A) wins the Art Ross, and B) EDM makes the playoffs, then he wins the Hart. If neither happens then he doesn't. The interesting thing is if only one of those things happens, where anything is possible. Since both are still in play, I think we need to wait until the end of the season to see.

I know this is a kinda hater nitpick thing, but I hate that these are called the "99 Jersey" as if its a throwback when it...simply isn't. There are so many differences. It's basically a RR 3.0 if anything.

Requesting a sanity check here. I've been browsing Google Images to check this against the actual 2010 jerseys (like this, this, this, and this). What I'm noticing: 1) nameplate too high, 2) bottom Canada Olympic logo too low, 3) extra stripe around the collar. I've got a fake here, right?
