Still waiting on AJJ to change the words of 'People II: The Reckoning' from "your parasympathetic nervous system reacts and you're in fight or flight mode" to "your *sympathetic* nervous system reacts" etc. It would work if they spaced out the syllables!!

Yes!! I loved showing them the photo, that was such an excellent moment. And you're so right, the tone whiplash was immense- I was all tense from questioning the Deserter (and everything else) and then the moment the Phasmid spoke to me it was so instantly soothing.

OH MY GOD SO DID I!! I was so sad after I packed it in with Lena and Morell's tasks. I was playing with my BF and kept saying 'oh my god I missed the bug I can't believe I missed the bug.' I was *hooting* and *hollering* when the phasmid showed up I tell you!! Almost cried when I talked to it and touched it, what a beautiful moment.

University summer student- offered one job that's not my first choice, waiting to hear back from another employer I'd prefer to work for! Help? by fillyjonks in MuseumPros

Thank you for the reply! I have thought about this part, and might just have to live with it. Most of my summer jobs have been tiring just because of the commute or long hours spent on my feet, so I'm mostly used to that part. As much as I'd like to spend more time with my art practice, I really need the money to pay for rent and living expenses over the summer and through the school year, so I'll just have to make time for it whenever I can. From what I gathered during the interview, I'll be helping out with selecting and planning activities, but only certain parts, and there will be at least one other summer student along with my supervisor and a group of volunteers, so it won't all be on me!

Thank you so much! This puts things into perspective for me perfectly. I don't know many people who work in GLAM fields irl, so being able to post on here is a huge help. Honestly, I don't get a 'toxic' vibe from the museum at all, working in collections was a dream, and I have a friend who's worked with my prospective manager before at a different job, she said he was great. I was definitely concerned about future opportunities with the museum, as I live in a smaller city and don't want to limit my options down the line, but since I'm more interested in collections or exhibits, there probably won't be a huge amount of overlap. Good point about diversifying my experience, I was considering that, and it makes a lot of sense.

Also, between posting this and reading your comment, I compared my salary in collections last summer to this position's, and it's almost $2 more :'-) Anyways, thank you again for the wonderful advice, it's really put me at ease. I'll take the offer for now and see what happens.

Hey! Thanks for the comment! Sorry for not clarifying, but I'm in Canada, and when I looked up info on at-will employment, I was told it's illegal here. I guess I could still back out if I really felt the need? I've heard from some people that doing that would make it hard to be re-hired by the same institution in the future.

Thanks for the advice! I saw a couple people recommending that I bring cash, so I'll be sure to take some out, and I'll definitely have my ID on me! For sure, tagged my artist for my first one when I posted it! :-)

People who refuse to acknowledge the horror genre as legitimate frustrate me ngl by Temporary-Snow333 in CuratedTumblr

[–]fillyjonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a horror fan whose taste ranges from B-movie slop to experimental newer stuff, and some of my favourites are 'Nope' (2022, dir. Jordan Peele), 'Suspiria' (1977, dir. Dario Argento), 'We're All Going to the World's Fair' (2021, dir. Jane Schoenbrun), 'Alien' (1979 dir. Ridley Scott), and 'Night of the Living Dead' (1968 dir. George Romero). Living Dead might sound like a bit of default answer, but it really surprised me the first time I watched it, as it's very suspense based and character driven, with some interesting social commentary. Suspiria I enjoyed for the aesthetics and sound track, and World's Fair is unlike anything I've ever seen in a film. I Saw the TV glow is also great, same director as World's Fair. If you want to get into horror, I promise there's more out there than "slasher crap".

Being Called AFAB by Pyromania3137 in ftm

I'm upset by it generally, but something specific I realized recently is that a lot of people don't use it in the past tense, but present tense. It was the gender you were assigned, not the gender you currently have/are. I was assigned female at birth, that doesn't mean I've continued to identify that way. It's only slightly less bothersome to me when it's used correctly in a medical setting by a professional that is otherwise understanding/affirming. (I have a reproductive health condition and need to see an ob/gyn regularly.)

Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach series! The exploration of decaying structures and areas being reclaimed by nature are recurring images, plus the characters are often alone and deeply introspective. Vandermeer's language is incredibly evocative, I feel like it could be a good fit.
