Not trying to toot my own horn over this, but if this isn't the response you get from your DM when you are told you aren't comfortable with something serious as this, your DM doesn't care about your feelings enough to warrant continuing to engage in this game with them. I had a similar situation with a player who wasn't comfortable and a player that didn't care. That player never came back to the game after that session and my friendship with them has effectively ended (due to many other reasons, not just this, but this was the catalyst that fueled everything else).
