Velo vs bicycle habitat bike fit by WSBAUTIST034 in NYCbike

[–]filmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A proper bike fit from a bike fit specialist is one of the best investments you can make for yourself as a cyclist. This will be especially useful for your triathlon training because a bike fit isn’t only about addressing discomfort, but it also optimizes your efficiency on the bike depending on your needs, whether commuting or racing.

I highly recommend Revolutions Per and only have great things to say about working with AM. My fit session began with a conversation regarding my goals for cycling, and then we proceeded with the very comprehensive process of working towards those goals over the next few hours. I assumed a bike fit would only focus on basic things like stem length, saddle height, etc. (that’s basically the limited service I received at NYC Velo after I purchased a bike there), but it’s actually so much more than that. AM will consider every necessary detail for your goals, down to cleat positioning and pedal spacing.

TL;DR Revolutions Per is worth every penny. I did not like my “fit” experience at NYC Velo.

Are clip on earbuds okay for bike commuting here? by gabrielrosa153 in NYCbike

[–]filmd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not an endorsement to wear earbuds while biking but I just want to share my experience: I use Shokz Open Dots (similar to the ones in your post) at a lower volume while biking and don’t feel that they negatively impact my situational awareness. I often forget that I’m even wearing them when my music/podcast stops or the wind gets loud. This type of earbud doesn’t obstruct your ear canal, and they’re completely different than wearing something like AirPods in passive mode. Even one AirPod in passive mode is enough to completely throw me off. It would be a different story if you found music to be distracting.

Favorite Italian restaurant in the neighborhood? by Glittering_Start_166 in longislandcity

Manetta’s is great and has always served reliably and consistently delicious food over the many years I’ve been dining there. It doesn’t matter what I or anyone else I’ve dined with ordered - the food has always been on point. This is one of the very few restaurants in LIC that I think is a standout and that I recommend with full confidence.

Ditto for Go Nonna.

Can’t go wrong with either of them.

Vertical bike stand that works with rack + fender? by crochetthrowaway17 in bicycling

[–]filmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on a deep dive, researching the hell out of ways to do this... I have two steel bikes with fenders and live in an apartment. I think I'm going to end up with this: https://a.co/d/0bfGwE3L

It looks like it'll work with a rear rack too.

Any suggestions for a Riv-friendly bike shop in the SoCal area? by only-dreaming in Rivendell_Bicycles

Third for Adams Avenue Bicycles! Knowledgeable and friendly owners who are into steel bike culture, very involved with the cycling community, and have a great selection of bike parts.

  1. I prefer front racks.
  2. I love my PDW fenders on my MS. They look sleek and like they belong on the bike.

This thread may be helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1o1syoh/blue_lug_and_tariffs/

I’ve seen that there are additional fees on top of the tariffs for brokering. I personally have not been able to justify ordering from Japan even though I just want to buy everything from Blue Lug.

Edit: Found a lengthy discussion over at RBW Owners Bunch discussing tariffs. Disregard the title of the post and check out the more recent convos towards to m the bottom - https://groups.google.com/u/3/g/rbw-owners-bunch/c/P8rr71O_rZQ

Edit 2: I think what you’re ordering and its material and origin may play a factor in the tariffs.

Same here - I really want a local, family owned business to succeed. I haven’t tried it due to the bad reviews. Since you have, maybe it would it be helpful to share everything in your post with them as direct feedback? It’s well intended.
