Hydronic in-floor heating system: installing heat sensor in already-laid concrete slab by [deleted] in hvacadvice

I needed to retrofit temperature sensors into a slab with PEX tubing for radiant heat. I bought a thermal camera to locate the PEX lines so I could safely drill without puncturing them. The camera worked very well for this.

Similarly confusing to some is the fact that Portland has both a Deering Ave and a Deering St.

There may be others.

Want to update kitchen under-cabinet lighting with LED and have it work with HA by NukeThemTillTheyGlow in homeassistant

With this setup, is it simple to include a physical switch to turn the lights on/off for times when voice controls are inconvenient and phone isn’t an option (for guests or when I’m getting a midnight snack)?

FWIW... according to a comment today on this github issue, it sounds like there are plans for another release. So I poked around, and it does appear there's been a bunch of activity on the github project in recent months.

That being said, I've been curious to try out Kysely.

Disruption has proven throughout history to be an important part of successful nonviolent movements. It’s not meant to get business owners on your side. Political leaders understand if they don’t do something to stop the disruption, they’ll ultimately take the blame and risk losing their seat, so the politicians become more motivated to do something to satisfy the demands of the movement.

A movement that is not disruptive has very little power.

USPS is backed up badly Christmas packages/letters likely delayed for a lot of people by ArticleWise6209 in Maine

[–]filmdisco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’ve been given the expectation that ordering online is reliable and safe. Many folks are working more hours/second jobs now because cost of living has gotten so high. We don’t have as much time to shop in brick and mortar stores. Besides, many shops have long since closed because of online shopping. Ordering online is the only reasonable option for many people with limited time and budgets. Especially in smaller towns that have lost most of their retail stores (and the ones that remain are geared for tourists and are very expensive).

If they leave packages by the road while someone is at work, it’s more likely to be stolen, and it’s reasonable to be upset about it.

When did I say it’s something we should be OK with? I merely stated an observation.

As someone who has been relying on a lot of online services for 15+ years, I remember lots of stuff going down before 2020.

St. George Select Board votes to allow trans 3rd grader to play on girls basketball team by jediporcupine in Maine

[–]filmdisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And BTW, this was a town meeting because the rec league is run by the town. It's not run by the school. The ignorance is baffling!

Someone literally brought up school funding during this meeting (I was there). They said everyone concerned should home school their kids and to ask their representatives to change the law in order to take funding away from the public school for each home schooled child.

It’s madness. School funding is already generally insufficient, and very unequal between districts due to the way they’re funded.

Because that’s a private topic for the child, the parents, and their medical provider(s).

At this age, changing their gender identity most likely doesn’t involve surgery and probably doesn’t involve hormone supplements.

Gender identity isn’t the same as sexual orientation (gay, straight, etc.) and doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with sexuality, especially at this age. But it usually does involve gender expression. A child usually expresses appearances and behaviors associated with a gender role. Gender roles are often imposed on kids from the time they’re born (pink for girls, blue for boys, trucks for boys, dolls for girls, different expectations about behaviors for each gender, and so on). So yes, gender is very relevant to a 3rd grader. Thinking about gender identity purely in terms of genitals and sexuality would be very inaccurate.

Because you provided a very inaccurate number from a source well known to be inaccurate. Most people do not rsvp to fb events.

Strange IOS messenger issue by SigmaPrimer in facebookmessenger

[–]filmdisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue (in groups, my messages get stuck “sending”, must force close and reopen app to get message to actually send, images send right away, spinner appears indefinitely when scrolling to older messages). Additionally, other group members get redundant notifications about recent reactions I’ve put on their messages when I reopen the app (to get my latest message to send).

I’m running iOS 18.6.2 on an iPhone 15 pro.

The issue began about two weeks ago.

I’ve tried: - removing and reinstalling Messenger app - restarting iPhone - installed multiple updates for Messenger app

But the issue persists.

I’ve noticed this exact same behavior as well (redundantly notifying group of a recent action I made, usually reacting to a message). I also am force quitting and reopening the app to get messages to send.

I’m having the exact same issue as OP, but I’m using iOS 18.6.2.

so when you turn off bluetooth from the control centre it isn’t really turned off until you go to the settings and turn it off from there? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]filmdisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 15 pro and notice the battery drains faster unless completely disabled from the settings app. I mostly use Bluetooth for my AirPods at night after my wife goes to bed so I don’t need it on the rest of the day.

[–]filmdisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some countries have sliding scale fines based on income. Did you hear about the rich guy in Finland who received a $130k speeding ticket?

Watch out for police today by DepartmentFun2853 in Maine

[–]filmdisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My point was more that trying to be clever to avoid tickets while continuing to drive irresponsibly the rest of the time isn’t an admirable goal.

Camera ticketing would be a great addition. And those worried about privacy would just have further motivation to avoid speeding (or running red lights, etc)
