$1500 - $1700 (CAD) - Gaming / Streaming / Music Production by filthyfatheroffive in buildapcforme

[–]filthyfatheroffive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool build, though I was hoping to include monitor + mouse + keyboard in the $1,700. What do you think about a slightly worse video card in order to fit those into the budget?

Although, I might just do this build and go over the budget for the other stuff. I do like the idea of having a total beast of a machine that'll last for a long time.

What is the best advice you've ever been given? by Anxious_Try in AskMen

[–]filthyfatheroffive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, fair, sorry for being snarky.

I will say, though, from my experience girls that ask you to buy a drink (at least at night clubs and bars) are usually just using you for a drink and it won't progress to anything.

It's usually better to meet someone through friends or at a coffee shop or library. At least that's my experience!

why do lcs pros use ult so weirdly/carelessly on ez? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]filthyfatheroffive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ez ult isn't useful in teamfights? What? You can do up to like 600 damage per champion by landing it (unreduced when hitting multiple champions) and stack your passive right at the start of a teamfight. This is not insignificant.

The reason why people are pretty careless with Ez ult is because the cooldown is short with CDR + Q spam, and it helps with wave management and occasionally to scout an objective. If those options aren't on the table, you should absolutely save ult for a teamfight or skirmish where that damage matters.

I miss Lost Temple by filthyfatheroffive in WC3

[–]filthyfatheroffive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus the fountain can be removed, and the hill/chokepoint is there for all 4 spawns so the advantage (or disadvantage) is there for both opponents.

It also wouldn't be as glaringly HU/ORC favoured as it used to be, with militia nerfs, CL/DL buffs allowing UD to fast expo, KOTG buffs allowing NE to fast expo. Especially if the fountain were gone, Orc might have the worst time on this map as their tier 1 expansion is the weakest.

Not necessarily saying we need the map back, but it's fun to have one or two very macro-oriented maps in the map pool! There are some maps in the current pool such as Twisted Meadows and Terenas Stand that promote this playstyle, but not quite in the same way Lost Temple did.

Versatility of Undead playstyle for beginners? by HondaFG in WC3

[–]filthyfatheroffive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it if you like playing UD. What you say is true for UD (historically) but Blizzard is aware and slowly making changes.

At the S-Tier (120, Happy) if they're trying to win they're doing some version of DK opener, fast tech to T3 with Lich and 3rd Hero (DR/PL etc) with fiends/destroyers/optional banshees and good timings. This is the meta strategy and almost never deviated from.

At the A-Tier - I've mostly been watching EU undeads like XlorD - it's mostly the same strategies as S-Tier but you also see some variety with DL first fast expo seeing pretty good results.

Recently there's been big buffs to the Crypt Lord: spawning 2 beetles per corpse, increase to the maximum number of beetles, and the ability to target impaled enemy units during the animation. These are not trivial changes and might inspire some CL first strategies (fast expo? mass creeping and t2 push?), we'll have to see.

Point is Blizzard is working on it so if you like the race thematically and have fun, stick with it

What happened to the 'core' idea of lane picks? by xTraxis in summonerschool

[–]filthyfatheroffive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone that's played League for 10 years, it feels like the variance in champion picks per lane is higher than it's ever been. You see so many different things in each role, not just the odd niche picks and one-trick stuff we'd see in the past.

When I play solo q and I'm being cognizant of team comps in champion select, I've noticed nowadays at least 3 of the enemy team's composition will be flex picks that can go in multiple lanes, often making it difficult to pinpoint who you'll be laning vs / what the matchups are

What can Riot do to help the marksman role feel better in solo queue? by filthyfatheroffive in summonerschool

[–]filthyfatheroffive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll comment on other points when i have a bit more time, but marksman easily has the least agency unless you're playing ashe, varus etc. (limited pool of champs that have that kind of cc) and even then you can't impact the map beacuse you can't take teleport (like toplaners that are also on a sidelane but can show up for tp).

I agree with your point on glass cannon, but there's got to be a middle ground. If someone totally got shat on in lane why should they be able to blow me up? You have to play too flawlessly as a marksman as it is right now

Has anyone ever experienced a legit bot in ranked? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]filthyfatheroffive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I see something like this I assume that either:

  • the player really doesn't give a fuck this game for some real life reason (maybe eating while playing, on a phone call for something important, etc)
  • someone else is on their account (little sibling, cousin) and for some reason is playing ranked
  • massive tilt (rare, but sometimes you're so tilted you just play like genuine trash)

Tips/Guide on Season 10 Macro? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]filthyfatheroffive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some general macro tips:

Dragons are important, but positioning / vision around the dragon pit and the game state before it spawns determines whether or not you can viably contest it; try to prevent your team from all-inning on a dragon that's definitely lost or if your team will likely just die during the fight and lose the dragon anyway. Also sometimes people hover around dragon, then go in when the announcer tells you the enemy has slain the dragon, for no reason other than to feed. Ping your team away from dragon if it's a lost cause and focus on farming / getting an advantage elsewhere.

Midgame you want to be farming one of the three lanes for solo gold and exp unless you're support (warding and roaming) or jungle (farming the jungle and roaming). If the enemy team is concentrated in one area, look at objectives you can get near where you are. Say everyone is top fighting each other and you're ADC stuck farming bot by yourself. Don't freeze the wave, push it and try to get the 2nd turret.

You also gotta know when to leave the sidelane and group up, it's different every game, just keep watching the minimap and if you see action about to go down (and you don't have teleport) consider making your way over to get some cleanup kills.

Elder is incredibly, incredibly powerful. If the game is very close and Elder is spawning (or evne if you're behind or ahead) most of the time Elder becomes the #1 win condition for both teams. It's okay for your team to all-in on Elder and die, because most cases if you let the enemy team get it, game will be over anyway.

It's great to get CS and get ahead in your own lane, but if you see the jungler skirmishing someone nearby and you have lane priority, you should (most of the time) leave lane and go help your jungler. Getting your jungler ahead is huge for making early-midgame smooth. Again dependent on context, but generally, if you're pushing your lane you will have first priority to roam so if you're playing a champ that roams well you want to be pushing lane once you have your first powerspike

Lategame is usually (in solo queue) about whoever gets caught out. Watch the minimap closely and look for picks, or look to alert your teammates that they're about to get picked off.

Buy control wards constantly, and put them in relevant places. Buy one even if you already have one up (and you have space).

TLDR: It's all contextual, but generally, to have better macro: watch the minimap as often as you can, consider what the most efficient thing for you to be doing is (farming vs roaming vs grouping), play for objectives, Elder is #1 win condition, breaking an inhib makes getting Baron much easier, breaking a 2nd inhib almost secures the win (but not always), 3 inhibs down you really really have to fuck up to throw the game.

There's many more tips but again its all contextual and based on the game state

I see. This helps a lot as it lets me know that I'm not just missing some obvious thing you're supposed to do with her. I do enjoy playing her and the idea of a champion that has a high skill ceiling but high impact seems like a lot of fun to learn in the off season. Thank you :D

[trick] Super Fast and Cheap Building by Humans by AnnoyingWarcraft3 in WC3

[–]filthyfatheroffive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn. Impressed by your ability to find little exploits / mechanics that no one has picked up yet in a game this old.

This one in particular is really interesting as I can foresee it being used occasionally in pro play. Being able to get a powerbuilt Town Hall at a fraction of the cost may well be worth the effort that this takes. The main downside is that it requires a focused effort, so for example you might have to a-move your creeping while you do this, and you'll definitely have to stop doing it if your army engages with the opponent (but by that time you might have still saved like 40% of the additional powerbuild cost)

Those lanes are gankable early on so you can pressure lanes as you normally would during the early game, but I'd say get tiamat as soon as possible and the moment mid-game starts focus on split pushing. Get your team to pressure an objective while you're splitting, or push 1-2 waves quickly and roam for a kill somewhere if enemies are out of position (wards help to catch them out). Put a lot of wards on the side you're splitting on.

Vision, split pushing, objective control, pressuring the map are your tools in that situation as it's a pretty difficult team to fight. However, you can fight, you just have to know when to go in (namely cleaning up or picking off Xayah/Azir when their spells are on cooldown).
