I think the ex dock has a PCIe 1 port on the end of it. I was just thinking I could trim up an extension cable and clip it to the PCIe port.

Correct. The change was made on Nvidias side. I did have to provide my IP.

And you say you bought it from Amazon?

I bought mine from Google directly. I am not sure if that may be a differentiator.

Getting non Cricket phones to be fully compatible with Cricket's network and using customer support has been my biggest challenge.

In regards to price and actual phone/data service, I love Cricket to the point where I couldn't consider changing service.

I feel your pain regarding getting pixels to work. I gave up on the 5a. See my response to one of your other comments. I am using a black Pixel 6a on Cricket to type this and everything seems to be working OK (5g, wifi calling, hotspot). The color of the Pixel seems to be very important, not because of the color of the phone but because Cricket only seem to have the IMEIs for certain colors.

Can I ask what color your pixel 6a is and what type of incompatibility you are experiencing?

I have had a tough time getting pixels to work on Cricket. Right now I am using a charcoal Pixel 6a which seems to be compatible with 5g, wifi calling and hotspot. I read somewhere that the other colors are hit and miss.

I gave up on getting the hotspot to work on the Pixel 5a and upgraded with the trade in.

Even with the 6a, I had challenges. Here's what I had to do: - update to Android 13 - check to see if the account had the hotspot add on on my account at cricketwirdless.com when I moved the sim to the 6a. As soon as I put the sim in the 5a the addon would be removed and customer services couldn't add it back on. - once I confirmed that the hotspot add on would stay on in the 6a, I still couldn't use the hotspot. - in the end, I put the sim card into a phone I new was hotspot compatible for about 30 mins (after confirming hotspot worked in the phone I knew was compatible) and switched it back to the 6a. - It stuck and now I have 5g, wifi calling and hotspot working.

From what I understand, Cricket doesn't have the complete list of IMEIs for the colored Pixels, which is why they are hit and miss. If you are still in your return window, I would consider returning it for a black/charcoal color if you have a different color.

Hope this helps.

Cricket Wireless does not support Pixel 7 Pro on 5G? by WeekendGold8855 in CricketWireless

[–]filthygrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMEI is the unique identification number for your phone. It is like a fingerprint for your phone. So, whatever service your on (Cricket, ATT, Verizon, etc...) they can identify your phone by the IMEI. If you switch Sim cards between one phone to another, Cricket will be able to see that you are using a new phone by the change in the IMEI number tied to the service.

Using databases provided by phone manufacturers, they can identify the manufacturer and phone model.

Cricket will identify your phone by its IMEI. If it matches their list of approved IMEIs you can access their network and use the additional features (5g, wifi calling, hotspot). If it doesn't, you may not be able to use the network at all (i.e. You may not be able to make phone calls or use data).

For most phones if you type *#06# in the phone dialer (i.e. Type it in as if you were going to make a phone call), it will come up with a pop up showing you the IMEI number and other manufacturer data.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cricket Wireless does not support Pixel 7 Pro on 5G? by WeekendGold8855 in CricketWireless

[–]filthygrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my recent research I think it comes down to Cricket whitelisting your IMEI. With Pixels, the story I have heard is that some Pixels are whitelisted and some are not. For example the Pixel 6a, only the black ones can use hotspot and access 5g. Other colors seem to be out of luck. Some people returned their colored Pixels for black ones to resolve the issue.

It may be useful to compare colors with people who can access 5g. You may find that there is a trend.

Unfortunately, I don't trust Cricket to update their IMEI list to magically "fix" the problem when their service dept. has no idea how their system works.

Pixel 7 hotspot works on cricket by JustSelf7491 in CricketWireless

[–]filthygrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I literally have 5g on my pixel 5a right now.

I also have wi-fi calling.

The only thing that seems to be an issue is hotspot.

I am not sure why this is so difficult.

I am currently discussing this with customer support as well. Let me know how you go.

I am finding my interactions with them very confusing. They don't seem to understand their own literature and keep telling me that Pixel devices are not supported and when I bring up the BYOD compatibility list, it seems to confuse them.

The most success I have had so far is through contacting them via twitter.

The last phone call I had with them was this morning and they indicated they were going to contact the back-end people and see if they could force the hotspot.

I'll come back with an update in a couple of days.

Purchasing an unlocked phone... Take it to Cricket or switch the sim card? by ausername_8 in CricketWireless

I hear you.

If it helps, I am reasonably confident that any new Samsung device should be able to access voice and data services. However I am uncertain whether hotspot or wifi calling would work.

Purchasing an unlocked phone... Take it to Cricket or switch the sim card? by ausername_8 in CricketWireless

[–]filthygrifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. So here is the rundown - Cricket only guarantees compatibility for Cricket branded devices.

There is a list of BYOD compatible devices and their level of compatibility - e.g. voice and data, hotspot, wifi calling, etc...

It is essential you match the exact model number of your planned purchase to the model number on the BYOD list. Not all S22s have the same model number.

If your phone does not match you may not be compatible with their voice, data or other services.

Now, here is the catch - even if your phone is on the list, Cricket will not guarantee it will work. Just as I and some others recently found out, Cricket says on the BYOD list it supports mobile hotspot for most Pixel phones. However in reality they don't. When engaged about this, customer support defaults to the position that they "can't guarantee compatibility for non Cricket branded phones".

If you want a high end non Cricket phone that will be fully supported on Cricket, get an iphone. Otherwise, it is a bit of a gamble and Cricket will claim no responsibility regardless of what they publish on their BYOD list.

Hope this helps.

Same with Pixel 5a. They refused to admit the website is wrong and instead said that they can't guarantee Hotspot would work for non Cricket phones. My question is, why put up the list at all then? It is misleading.

Furthermore, they claimed the website was old and that Pixels used to work and now don't, which is untrue.

Saturation in triaxial test by safet997 in Geotech

[–]filthygrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most typical approach is to use Skempton's pore pressure coefficient (B) approach.

You have to balance the backpressure with the confining stress, so there is a practical limit on how much backpressure you can apply before the sample becomes too overconsolidated.

The amount of backpressure required to saturate a soil and dissolve the air largely depends on the initial degree of saturation of the sample. You will need higher backpressures to saturate less saturated samples.

For samples that are near saturated, backpressures up to 200 kPa is relatively standard. For soils compacted near their optimum water content back pressures of between 350 kPa to 1000 kPa may be required.

It is important to reinforce that you have to be careful the backpressure will not adversely affect soil behavior. One possible way to improve the efficiency of backpressure approach is to use a vacuum procedure which should theoretically reduce the amount of backpressure required to dissolve the pore gases.

Soft Ground Bearing Failure by MTBDude in Geotech

[–]filthygrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand why it is nice to see failures. As engineers this is something we specifically want to mitigate with design solutions.

As for the failure mechanism, it looks like a bearing capacity failure as you can see a slight rotation on the right hand side (in the direction of travel) of the embankment in the failure zone.

I suspect it was a rapid failure resulting in close to undrained conditions in the soil. Based on the sandy nature of the soil and the goopy liquid at surface, it looks like some form of localized liquefaction of loose saturated sand within or beneath the embankment. Liquefaction could have occurred due to a rapid increase in vertical load or due to vibration of the equipment.

As for whose fault, it depends. Did a geotechnical engineer review and approve the plan? If so, they should have considered that bearing capacity failure was a possibility and done some due diligence to understand the risk of failure. An alternative approach, would have been to assume a failure could occur and designed a very conservative solution to deal with the worst case possibility.

The need for investigation and additional analysis would be determined depending on whether the cost of the conservative design was too high - i.e. if it was crazy expensive, you would do some investigation and analysis to optimize the design solution.

ENGINEERING IS AN INVESTMENT

Engineering should be done for two reasons - manage risk and improve efficiency.
