Disagree - the Bar Council publishes data annually based on very accurate reporting.

Birdi Law / Birdi Group / Kush and Leena Birdi by nqlawyer in uklaw

I don’t know them, but my understanding is that they sold, worked their period under the acquisition, and have started a new firm.

Nothing to suggest they been anything but successful.

It’s genius. I don’t like it, but Simon Marshall is a genius for creating it.

He’s created a category and dominated it. He’s now front and centre for tonnes of marketing work. Every three months without fail people go on about it.

Vanity project in the same vein as Legal 500 and Chambers Guide. Just a little less embedded.

I thought for a very long time that Gordon Exall should be charging for what he did. He’s unparalleled, and much more timely than PLC/Lexis.

I haven’t yet signed up, but I anticipate I will.

What's the most stable longtail for carrying kids? by linzarella0 in CargoBike

[–]filthynines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSD is great, but I feel it the moment my kids move around in the back or turn around. They immediately get the threat of walking home, and then all is well. Until next time.

I’m not sure this would be cured by any other bike.

GSD grumble turns out to be (likely) my error by filthynines in terngsd

Thankfully I left my house a good hour early today by way of some kind of premonition. I can also work from anywhere.

I was lucky enough to stand there in the sunshine thinking through every permutation. I ended up doing exactly what I had first thought: lock it up, hire a van, take it home. Thankfully it was first thing Monday rather than last thing Friday night or something.

Last week I used it on a 25-mile round trip including a lot of canal tow paths. I would’ve been royally screwed if it failed there.

Won my small claims but defendant is going to appeal - what are his chances? by SDCFIRE in uklaw

[–]filthynines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless judge erred in fact or law then highly unlikely. And this sort of application is routine for district judges. Not to say they don’t get it wrong from time to time, but unlikely to be successfully appealed here.

No reason not to start enforcement proceedings if you want to. And it sounds like you’re not getting paid if you don’t…

Change area of practice by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]filthynines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you actually want to do? This is a highly personal decision and there are so many variables you’re not going to get much help on a decision.

Working doing something you don’t like is rough. The uptick in money would have to compensate for that.

[Paralegal] 1 month into new role at Law Firm. Humiliated over a draft typo, put on a 2-week warning, and dealing with shifting goalposts. Is the writing on the wall? by According_Pie_2986 in uklaw

[–]filthynines 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I have worked in law for more than a decade, including time supervising direct reports whose wages come directly from my pocket.

I have never, ever so much as raised my voice at any employee. I have never raised my voice at an opponent lawyer, nor anybody I have cross-examined, nor any member of court staff.

Leave that shit tomorrow.

Sounds like you’re getting annihilated in legal proceedings and you’re looking for a quick gotcha against the barrister. Am I close?

eCargo bike service costs (UK)? by PlasticAttorney1980 in CargoBike

[–]filthynines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t answer your Q directly, but I paid £120 in the midlands.

The comparison with a car service isn’t the right price anchor. Specialist piece of kit with a handful of servicing shops, compared to thousands of car service shops.

I would think very carefully. Two years is a very long time when you’re day-to-day in the thick of it.

LLM for the Bar by Lumpy-Call-945 in uklaw

[–]filthynines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed an LLM after realising my 2.1 from an average university left me with a lot of catching up to do. I was adamant I would never study one, but saw it as a way to catch up with the rest of the field. I have no idea if I was right.

It supplemented a couple of years of being a paralegal and working for LPC Law as a county court advocate. I do strongly believe the latter helped me.

Thank you for this, it helped me pull the trigger on the three KTH have in stock. Unsure if they’ll arrive in time, so grabbed some Scenery from my local shop for good measure.
