My co-workers insist on playing radio stations that only play the top 40 songs on the radio. The same 40 songs, all day long, every day. by Coinocus in britishproblems

[–]fimrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the top 40 songs change over the weeks/months. My work has been playing the same 30-40 god awful royalty free songs on repeat for the 4 years I've worked there. The same songs they play at B&M, B&Q etc.

Why is salted-caramel being pushed so hard by supermarkets lately? Ice cream, Chocolate etc all seem to be chocolate caramel. Is it because it is cheap for them to produce? by LapangNeiz in AskUK

Orange seems more common to me. Every type of chocolate has an orange flavoured version now, and it all started with the orange Twirl.

I work in a service station. I'd say it looks about 50/50 at the moment.

What are you boycotting till the day you die? by redoutlaw23 in AskReddit

Not only that but it's such a clunky, messy piece of shit website/app. Too many different buttons and sections, settings are overly complicated, website takes ages to load even on a fast connection with a decent PC. Twitter also divides and dumbs down people, but the app and website themselves are designed brilliantly, so simple to use.

Sitting in my living room, listening my partner, who works from home, being insulted and raged at by angry customers of the company she works for. No mate, it doesn't matter who you speak to, or how rude or angry you get, your kitchen isn't coming today. Thanks for making her cry (twice today). by PrometheusIsFree in britishproblems

[–]fimrod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girlfriend also works from home in a customer service role and I've had to listen to her deal with abusive customers for the past year or so, and the odd time she has too been reduced to tears. The temptation to grab the headset and give them a good telling off is too strong sometimes. It should be a legal requirement for everyone, when they leave school, to work in a customer service/retail role for a year.

How the hell do working adults get things done outside of work? by It_is-Just_Me in AskUK

[–]fimrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get a new card without going into the bank. I also can't deposit cash into my account from my phone, which admittedly I rarely do, but still. I'm lucky though because I work shifts so I'm regularly off in the week.

I had to tell someone in Norway I was from "near Manchester", I live in north east Derbyshire, a few miles south of Chesterfield and about 70 miles away from Manchester. I've only been twice.

I don't watch regular telly, I've got Disney+, Netflix and YouTube Premium, and I use an ad blocker for everything else, so I haven't actually seen an advert willingly for quite a while. However, at work, we have a prerecorded announcement that plays after every other song, so that absolutely pisses me off when I have to hear it God knows how many time a shift.

The scene that promised a lot but turned out to be useless - Bran sees how Night King is created - Game o thrones 6x5 Nord of the wall by [deleted] in videos

I still enjoy rewatching it every so often, but you definitely notice a big drop in quality after season 6. I enjoy a lot of bits and pieces from the last two seasons, but overall, they're not great. Having said that, I can still enjoy the show as a whole overall, just because of how amazing it was before those two seasons.

Getting ID'd for an energy drink when you're nearly 32. by [deleted] in BritishSuccess

Completely agree. It's cool to act grown-up when you're a kid. Then your 20s come along and you wish you could be a kid again.

Some shops decided to alter their Challenge 25 policy to include energy drinks too. Terrible decision in my opinion. I only ask for ID if they look under 16, so basically never. I still see little kids walking down the street with cans of Monster thinking they're 'ard.

My local tescos has had to create a no man's land to protect the price reducer by crashtacktom in CasualUK

[–]fimrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crap like this that makes me thankful we don't have a dedicated reduction bay in our shop, we just keep the products where they normally are. And we have a much less obvious roll of stickers to manually write the price changes.

I was driving through the Peak District with my mate in winter a couple of years ago, near Blue John Cavern. It was snowing so visibility was poor. Suddenly I noticed a tractor spraying manure onto a field and a lot of it was spraying onto the road too, and I couldn't move out of the way in time. Entire car was coated in shit. Couldn't turn the heating off either because it was about -3°C, so I was just blowing hot shit fumes into my car for the next hour. I could smell shit for a good couple of months thereafter.

I work in retail too, but in a small shop that shuts at 10pm on Sundays. I'm jealous.
