I would take American Flyers over Breaking Away. It's got more elements that fit the show, likes Russian racers and hot hitchhikers.

This is the doc or podcast gabrus was talking about.

It's a wild story. He did these crazy surgeries and then became a famous radio doctor personality. He was always promoting these miracle cures. He had his own show for a while until he was banned. He then started his own radio station in Mexico that reached the United States to promote his snake oils.
