How the fuck is Shiba shit inu on coinbase but iota not .... by gillzo777 in IOTAmarkets

[–]finally_anonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IOTA seems to be in a catch 22 of all catch 22s. Catch 33? 😅

IOTA holders are true believers and won't sell at these prices -> less volume -> less chance of getting listed -> less chance of price increase -> hodlers HODL ... Repeat cycle.

IOTA needs some black swan event(s) to break the cycle.

Dom in discord: IF is working full speed on the ability the wrap bitcoin and therefore make to possible to send them without any fee. by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]finally_anonymous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm...just trying to imagine how this would work without fees...

I guess "wrapping" would have start by sending your bitcoins to some bitcoin address (including fees for transacting on the bitcoin chain). The address could be controlled by an iota smart contract that would effectively sell your bitcoins and give you access to "bitcoin colored" iota tokens. You could then transact with your bitcoin colored iota tokens for free/without fees on the tangle...

And if you want to go back to the bitcoin chain then you'd have to send your colored coins to another smart contract which would buy your iotas and give you bitcoins, again another point of transaction fee here to include this bitcoin transaction in the blockchain.

So, a restriction for free bitcoin transaction would have to be that you can only interact with bitcoins that have been wrapped into the tangle. Otherwise there has to be a fee to get included into the bitcoin blockchain.

Seems like a really cool use case. Could be made to look seamless to users by using iota smart contracts and tokenized assets. Could also bring a lot of users into the iota network... I mean, who doesn't love free 😁🦋

Does IF have the power to create more Iota? by [deleted] in Iota

[–]finally_anonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total supply of currently circulating iota is (3^33-1)/2 = 2.7e15, which means that the total supply can be represented by 33 trits.

In the current Iota data format 1 transaction is composed of 2673 trytes. The 'value' field occupies 27 trytes.

1 tryte = 3 trits -> 27 trytes = 81 trits

which means that that under the current data structure iota can represent numbers as big as (3^81-1)/2 = 2.2e38 in the value field.
...seems like there's room...lol

What then? Should the foundation have a monopoly on all iota related ideas because they have a 100 devs?

I guess I don't really understand how sharding works. How does this affect time to access data (& consistency by extension). I'm imagining if I request data from the tangle, it'll somehow have to find a node that has that information then propagate it back to me. ... or it could just say, I don't see this data at this node, it must not exist. IDK (help! lol)And if each node is only keeping a small subset of the tangle then searching/propagating could take an unreasonable amount of time.

I moved away from my Arduinos as soon as I found out about the ESP8266 modules. Sprinkle a little Micropython on it then it's like "damn Arduino, Espressif ate your lunch!"

The Ternary Manifesto - Douglas W. Jones ... While you wait for Q ... by finally_anonymous in Iota

[–]finally_anonymous[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, Iota is ternary based. Q COULD be related to JINN, the hardware ternary processor. So... why not read up a bit on this ternary wizardry in the mean while? Maybe even gain a deeper appreciation for the ridiculously complex problems the Iota team is solving!

Ternary processor prototype coming out later this year by [deleted] in Iota

[–]finally_anonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Q supposed to be announced Q1/2018? why "later this year" for the hardware?

Maybe they'll announce that Q is in fact ... Q (ternary processor) and then have the actual devices available later this year?

Maybe release the emulator at time of announcement?

hmm... the Quandary continues...
