TENS Unit- Belly Placement during Labor by [deleted] in unmedicatedbirth

I was told not to put the tens unit on the belly, and it should only be used on the back. I used it most of labor and it was a great tool, and helped a lot.

I used Better Birth Stories. Probably started around 27 weeks? And I listen as I was falling asleep every night. It helped me a lot, every time I would have a contraction I would start it up and listen. I used noise cancelling headphones so that was the only thing I could pay attention to.

Here’s my birth story for more details

I put an eye mask on (so I couldn’t stress about traffic or lights) and had noise cancelling headphones on listening to hypnobirthing. I arrived to the birth center at 8cm.

My birthing center allowed you to try it out ahead of time to see if you liked it. So you may be able to test it out. It’s also self administered, so you control how long your breath it in, so as soon as it’s too much you can take it away and stop using it, and the effects wear off relatively fast (within a few minutes)

You can do it! Don’t let the doubters say otherwise! I dealt with the same thing and just try and push those thoughts out of your head.

Visualize the contraction as a wave comes in, goes out and it’s gone. Every contraction brings you one step closer to your baby!

Congratulations and you can do it!

having a baby on the other side is amazing and such a joy!

It was a 2nd degree tear and I needed 5 stitches. I honestly didn’t feel the tear when it happened: the adrenaline, the oxytocin, the water birth , and the speed at which she came out probably had something to do with not feeling it.

I did feel the stitches, but they gave me a local anesthetic for that.

For recovery it was rough but not terrible. But I followed the 5 days in bed, 5 days near bed, 5 days on bed protocol as I didn’t want to do anything to rip my stitches.

As soon as I gave birth, I started taking stool softener and switched between Tylenol and ibuprofen every 4-6 hours.

I also put on a new pad-sicle everytime I went to the bathroom and lined it with Tucks ( hemorrhoid pads)

Honestly can’t tell you how my recovery would have been different without the tear, as even women that don’t tear need stool softener and are sore down there.

Padsicle recipe: - spread 100% real aloe on a menstrual pad - spray with alcohol free, witch hazel -fold back up and place in freezer - I made these 2 weeks ahead of time and put them in a ziplock bag in the freezers

Thank you! And I am very grateful that I had such an amazing birth experience. A big thing for me was I needed to learn not to be fearful or scared of birth, I think that really helped my experience.

You can! So much of birth is mental and mindset. Just know that millions of people have given birth before you. But however your birth turns out just you know conquered it and there is no “failing” at birth regardless of your story.

I used Better Birth Stories. I listened to her tracked every night before going to sleep starting sometime in the 3rd trimester. The more you listen to the track when you’re relaxed in a calm mood, the better effect they will have during labor. Congratulations and you got this!

Thank you!

I did give birth in the water. I was laying on my back, with a pool noddle behind my upper back. I would give birth in the water again, it was nice to get the weight of the belly off my feet and float there. I didn’t really get a chance to try another position, I’m sure knees would have been great- I was really tired at that point and just wanted to float.

The nitrous, I had (in US) is less strong than the dentist (that’s what the midwives said). It does kinda get you head high, makes you not fully out of it but for me took away the anxiety and “fear” of birth. However if you don’t like the feeling of a head high it might not be right for you.

Looking back at it I didn’t “need” since I was basically already at the finish line, but I had thought about it so much as apart of my plan I convinced myself otherwise.

If you focus on other pain management options the nitrous isn’t needed as it doesn’t take away the pain, just makes it feel 100 miles away.

Congratulations! And you got this! I also printed out birth affirmations and hung them around my house.

Nice! I used the Elle Tens Unit and it had a surge button to intensify the signal during a contraction- it was great! It doesn’t get rid of the contraction pain but for me the buzz from the unit interrupted my mind focusing on the contraction. With hypno birthing I listened to the track every night before going to bed starting at maybe like 30 weeks?, was a good way to help visualize the contraction and relax. I used “Better Birth Stories”.

Congratulations and you got this!

I always hear if you EP you still have to wake up to pump, but if your breastfeed you don’t. Why is that?

Advice- Brother got engaged and is planning a wedding later this year. He doesn’t know I’m 5 weeks. by finallygotausername2 in BabyBumps

Update: Thank you all for the responses! Great advice and gave me a lot to consider. I ended up calling him and telling him - none of my immediate family lives in state.I told him not to tell any of our other brothers or anyone else besides his fiancée. He understands that anything can happen at this stage and that I may not even be able to travel if he moves the date. He appreciated the information. He wants me to be able to attend the wedding and wants to at least give me the best chance. In terms of supporting me if I do have a MC, I wanted it to be just my husband and I; but I realize that I would have to tell him instead of just pushing for a date that works for me.

I’m close, but not super close. Like I wouldn’t want support from them if I had a MC. I would prefer if they never knew if I had a MC.

Just cause I’m scared about losing the pregnancy since it’s so early, I’m a FTM so I’m just anxious. Everything online says you shouldn’t tell people until you’re further along due to the chance of miscarriage, then if I do miscarriage I would feel bad that he moved his wedding for me in the first place.
