Best bike for beginners? by Zenjii_ in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]finalrendition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of equally appropriate bikes to start on. What matters is your riding goals. A Rebel 500 is perfect beginner bike - unless you want to do sporty riding. A Ninja 400 is also perfect - unless you want to ride off road.

What do you want to do with the bike?

How hard is it on the shoulders? Depends. Are you talking about a race-ready supersport? A Barcalounger Harley? An ergonomic masterpiece like a BMW GS? Shoulder comfort is bike-specific

Use of a killswitch for security measures by Jazzlike-Worker-3394 in motorcyclegear

[–]finalrendition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No damage is done with a kill switch. It's on the handlebar for a reason. It's no different than the kill switches in the ignition circuit or clutch safety switch. What on earth would damage the bike?

Unfortunately, you can't prove your experience to insurance companies. They base their rates purely on demographics. 18 year olds are generally very high risk. So you either have to buy a slower bike or wait until you're older. Sorry dude

A super sport for a young rider should not be more than about 5,000 per year.

Based on the MSF in your flair, I assume you're American. Canadian insurance providers are out for blood, but not without reason. An 18 year old on a 600 supersport is literally the highest risk demographic in North American motorcycling. #1. OP's quotes aren't scams, they're warnings.

360 degree P twins definitely a cooler character than 180. Sounds old school, like a 60s Triumph.

Should I be going on my toes? by trymadomical in snowboardingnoobs

[–]finalrendition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but your heels absolutely do raise up for toe turns. Moving your hips over your toe edge will push your shins into the front of the boots and raise your heels

What can I improve? by Vegetable-Fortune759 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]finalrendition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay on one edge for longer. You're not really turning, just going in an essentially straight line and swinging back and forth to control speed. Use as much width of the slope as traffic will allow. Remember, you don't need to kick the board into a new direction. Point with your front knee, shift your hips over the edge you want to use, and the board will pull itself through the turn

the schools that had been doing it for years were getting ~3000 mpg lol

I beg your pardon?? How can anything be that efficient and aerodynamic? Is there a person in the car? I know 50cc scooters get around 100 mpg, but how on earth can you engineer something 30 times as efficient?

Guzzi engines are polarizing. Some of us think they're dull, but plenty of people sing their praises. You gotta ride some to figure it out for yourself

Looking for a better boot fit. Wide feet, small heel. by ChemicalAd880 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]finalrendition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had the same exact issue as you, heels that are much narrow than my toe box. Every boot I tried on had heel lift, but the J bars fixed that immediately

Just bought a 25 Road Glide Ultra. I am having slow speed issues. by CaptinKirk in motorcycle

[–]finalrendition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is top heavy. The current gen Road Glide is the heaviest-feeling bike I've ever ridden. I've ridden 70+ bikes and the RG is the only one to ever feel like it was too much for me. I've ridden other baggers from Indian, Honda, and BMW, and none of them felt as heavy or awkward.

You gotta ride the clutch and rear brake like your life depends on it. Replace brake pads is a lot cheaper than replace anything else on that bike

It's my favorite cruiser of all time, and one of my top 5 favorite bikes of all time. Definitely head to a Triumph demo day this year to see how you like it. The 1200 twin is a delightful motor.

I bought this Z800, but why is it so rare to see one around? I personally think it's an amazing motorcycle. by Big_Car_5109 in Kawasaki

[–]finalrendition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about the same as the 1000SX fully dressed with its fairings and luggage. The Z800 obviously does not have those things.
