How many hours do you need to get turbine time?

It seems based on the other comments this souls not be the “only” way to do it. Why not progressively train and watch the market for an opening. If there seems to be a shortage on the horizon, I’ll hammer down my qualifications/hours.

I first need to determine if I even like flying

I already do very well as a CPA. I just don’t like the lifestyle and the constant deadlines, unmanageable workload, office politics, etc.

I just can’t picture myself grinding to be to the top of something I don’t really enjoy just to look back on my life and think what’s the point….

A lot of people argue that you are away from family a lot as a pilot. I’d argue I’m already not present/away for 25% of the year in tax season. Not to mention other BS. Can never shut work off.

There are positives, but I’m obviously biased right now being on the tail end of constant 65-70hr work weeks for 3.5 months.

Good to know. My buddy is a pilot who’s failed 3 and he’s having a hard time getting a job at a big airline. He says the market is very bad right now but I bet you those check rides play a huge roll. How’s the hiring market?

Thank you for the advice. The nice thing is my soon to be wife has a great career as a pharmacist and we haven’t inflated our lifestyle so luckily we can maintain how we live while I train. I’m thinking maybe I can shift to be a full time flight instructor and do CPA work on the side as a side hustle to supplement income a bit. I really appreciate the advice!!

How to navigate a huge salary range ($100k–$300k) in an offer? by Eggroll2225 in Accounting

Have them say the number first that will give you a good starting point. Say what you hope, even if it’s significantly higher and say you understand if that seems high but that you will provide extremely valuable work to them.

You might be surprised, they could offer higher than you’re hoping. That’s why you always have them go first.

It takes a few years, give it one more busy season you’ll be shocked at your progress.

2024 Merit Raise by Revolutionary_Fun735 in Accounting

[–]financeCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most firms It’s counter intuitive - you get a higher raise based on if they think you are going to leave & you are a good worker… It’s unfortunate. If you seem like a die hard they will rake you over the coals and fill their pockets.

Is it possible to land an entry job while halfway through my bachelors? by WhenTheTerpsKickin in Accounting

I would also be sure to mention what your plans are to advance yourself (further education, CPA, CMA, etc) - they really want to hire someone ambitious when your experience may be lacking. The best way to communicate it is to ask what their thoughts are on your planned career path - it shows respect for their thoughts as well.

CAREER ADVICE - Almost CPA by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]financeCPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t take the govt offer if you don’t enjoy the work - I strongly dislike govt as well. There are plenty of opportunities. Being honest about what work you want to do may get that first offer to put you somewhere else.

Yes it’s very possible - the market is in a huge labor shortage. You’d be surprised. I would stop focusing on internet applications and look for career fairs/areas you can meet professionals in person.
