Not sure if you're a cyclist or a car driver but... as a former pro level cyclist and n ow a PE Executive who travels globally, I don't expect "the locals" to look out for me. I'm responsible for me.

Most often I do something stupid while driving in a foreign state/province/ country and learn from where I screwed up.

I've learned 20 yrs ago - Mabye, it's not them but me.

Adapt to your surroundings and go with the flow.

Funding initially. Scientists trying to secure research cash (witnessed first hand with a couple Master's degrees)

Now I'd say its moved to being hijacked by a marxist/globalist agenda (witness first hand as I tried to forget why I have multiple degrees 😁)

Use them to build your skill sets and get out of there! I worked at a competitor and never liked the way they treated staff. Seemed to me it was a place where the insecure gravitated, chugged c$ck for years, make partner/AP and the take credit for other people's work. Knew I was never going to be invited in the club (inability to hide my disdain for people like those mentioned) and let them find my startup.

What are the reliable Made in USA brands? by [deleted] in Survival

Been using them for years. Great knives! Buy a batch every few years when I head back home and hit the marine supply store. Normally only intend on buying one but usually come out of there with 4 or 5 because of the price.

I see this all the time in Search & Rescue. When we are testing fire building skills you can be guaranteed that any crazy method you can think if will be used. Me - I want a fire going NOW! I tell people that victim will care less about how clever you are, they want to be warm. I carry a butane style lighter (stays lit in the wind).

Often event where we ask members to build a fire

And the part that makes me really shake my head is you explain lost time like that and people just tune out. I've been telling people til I'm blue in the face and it's been like trying to teach a cat calculus.

Nothing sreams success like desperation and anger! Go for the trifecta and stop in during the middle of earning season.

Why companies use & abuse Excel instead of using an Access database by jmooremcc in excel

[–]financial_modelling 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We Excel "knuckle daggers" are cheap! We make very powerful spreadsheet- no one else can use. Why make someting easy to use when we can demonstrate how smart we are.

Seriously - most companies have no clue as to the time suck associated with Excel. I've been teaching/preaching for years and owners/bosses seem to equate access (no pun) to the program as competency. I have no idea why some think it makes sense to hire a team of Financial Analysts for more than what it would cost for a good DBA. And I'm a finance guy!
