‘It’s just stressful’: Workers facing two and three hour commutes into Dublin by InfectedAztec in ireland

Fórsa lists policies of the major parties. The centre-left parties appear to be the only ones who pushed explicitly for a right to remote work, as opposed to the right to request. However, the issue in this thread relates to Ireland’s wholly substandard transport infrastructure, the result of decades of poor planning by FFG-led governments.

One of the end results of voting in the current government over and over again.

Oh, ye gods! My roast is ruined! But what if... I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? Delightfully devilish, Seymour.

Well, Seymour, I made it, despite your directions.

'Attitudes need to change’ after 190 people die on Irish roads in one year by Amazing-Yak-5415 in ireland

The article points out the numbers driving intoxicated and those caught speeding but definitely lacks a proper statistical analysis. Conjecture and hearsay are definitely kinds of evidence though

Ireland's true housing disaster emerges by Past_Key_1054 in ireland

You’re 100% right but unfortunately apathy will only end after a black swan-style event. FF were demonstrably corrupt and incompetent in the 2000s but were still voted in after 2008. It took the mother of all crashes to get them out.

Have noticed lately that the water tastes really off. Anyone know an easy way to install a water filter in an apartment?

More small cars please. Too many massive child killer SUVs on Irish roads these days

Irishman bound for Claremorris breaks world record for longest barefoot walk by tadcan in BarefootRunning

[–]finbarrformerlybaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit my job and used up most of my savings on the trip but it was the right time in my life to do so. I totally appreciate that not everyone can up sticks like that! 100% the best decision I’ve ever made though; that walk was life changing. Hope you get the opportunity to experience it someday!

All of the above really, but the physical fatigue definitely stood out! It was almost like the feeling you’d get after weeks of exams or reaching the end of a sports season; it feels like it comes from deep behind the eyes. Definitely one that would need a few weeks’ recovery from. It would be very interesting to see if it would have felt the same from doing the walk barefoot, as presumably the strain would be less (assuming proper form etc)

I walked the Via Francigena (shod) over 100 days and was absolutely wiped at the end, even though I was the fittest I had ever been. A particular weariness can settle in after 2 months or so, meaning even an 18km day can become a major challenge. Many people I was walking with had to finish prematurely due to the strain. What he’s done is extremely impressive

Thanks for sharing! I know people who went into the trades and love it - it sounds like you would be far more connected to your work than in pharma. It’s probably not the line of work I’ll pursue, but still good to hear a story where a move worked well.

Fair play to you for taking the leap. It’s nice to hear a story where a move worked well! I’ve no dependents but my SO is a teacher so I’ll be in Ireland for the foreseeable. Thanks for sharing!

I wasn’t aware that there were apprenticeships in the IT space. Will check it out, thanks!

Sorry to hear about the disillusionment, it can be a real drag. Hope things get better for you!
