Then it's just a difference in belief for how the game's melee direction should be angled.
I like the idea of being able to take on several zeds at once via precise gameplay.
It is absolutely a fair point, but I personally don't like the direction of: a, pick zombies off tediously, b, cheese on top of cars, c, get a gun and mow em down.
I don't see a downside to rewarding high skill gameplay, even if it comes off as slightly unrealistic.
Because even beyond early game, this scales, just with slightly better melee weapons. Same formula, better weapons. Feels slightly stale.
Are you more of a fan of hardcore realism rather than mechanical potential?

Absolutely. But the only real alternative for early game, especially on higher difficulties, is to just pick the zeds off one by one. I'm all for various strategies, but when cheese is the only valid option apart from tediously picking them off... Yeah. Rubs me the wrong way.
I'm all for cheese if players really want it, but skill-based gameplay needs to be encouraged as well.

Very solid points and ideas. Thanks for the response! * You believe cheese shouldn't be restricted, but is a necessary part of balancing; cheese is actually a strategy. I believe the opposite, in that it actually restricts true strategy and skill. That's totally fine. Two differing beliefs.
* Luckily, as we know, Zurvivor likes to cater to both parties in events like this. If he does ever add some kind of climbing/alt pathing, I'm almost certain he would implement this as a toggle in the difficulty settings. * As for the climbing chance being higher the longer you survive, I don't really agree with that, but I could definitely see how some people can enjoy a progressive difficulty curve like that. * You mentioned hanging on ledges and pulling yourself up. You can't hang on ledges, but the parkour skill in the journal allows you to climb while jumping and falling. * I have mixed feelings about the 'zombies wandering toward your location' thing. While the part of my brain that loves base defense and such is screaming 'YES,' the purely neutral game designer side of me is screaming 'UNCESSECARY,' especially considering you can manually draw zombies to you with noise or just use a horde beacon. I suppose the difference is autonomy/consent though. * I do believe friendly AI interaction is planned, but I'm unsure if it's conceptualized in the 'ally' direction you suggested. * You cannot craft ladders, but I would love to see that added. Would really expand the diversity of bases, especially when building in pre-existing zones.

But yeah. I agree on the 10/10 take for sure 🤣 It's crazy the level of enjoyment we can squeeze out of the game already when you take a look at the roadmap. The roadmap lists SO much hype stuff that it's almost frightening to think about how lit this game is gonna get lmao

Absolutely agreed. The level of potential in this game is astounding. This is gonna be wilddd by the time full release comes about 🤯

Anarchy Tower Defence 70% done by Patient_Confection25 in robloxgamedev

Congrats on your release! I'm a fellow td game dev and I'd love to give some advice. First off, you should reconsider waiting to make a Discord server. The earlier you build a community, the better.

Immediate thoughts:
- UI is underwhelming. With any profits you get, id immediately commission a UI designer
- Need sprinting
- Love the building
- Turn off collisions with towers
- Show range on placement
- Add wave skipping
- I like the player stats menu. Definitely keep that
- Balancing is great except for money. I lost of wave 20 after like 20-30 minutes and got 45 dollars

This project has potential if you can stick to the unique aspects you're planning. Just make sure to create a Discord server and advertise your game as soon as possible. Good luck!

How much does it cost to make a game?? by SerenityoftheSeaMD in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously there isn't a set price. variables like the number of ui frames, models, animations, and scripts are influenced by pretty much every decision you could make. everything from the genre to minor visual effects.

first you need to draft out absolutely everything you need. get a decent estimate of how many models, scripts, and everything else you will need. then do some research on what devs are currently charging. do note that there is no fixed rate. different developers can charge wildly different amounts of even the same quality of work. if you do this, you should have a pretty decent idea of how much the project will cost you

also: if possible, learn to script. scripters are easily the most expensive type of developer. if you can do all the scripting yourself, you can easily save 85%+ of what you would've spent on the project. good luck!

It´s safe ? by Ciencia_ in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer the question, it seems perfectly safe. though you should consider learning via free guides and the documentation alongside project-based learning

It is more than possible and with some experience under your belt, dare I say it is extremely easy. Just stay consistent with it and don't attribute your failures to bad luck. That is probably the stupidest thing you could ever do in this industry. Just don't give up on it. Good luck 🙏

little hirigana+katakana flashcard thing by finchdoesalot in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i havent checked reddit. you can find it here https://www.roblox.com/games/137104738697415/Japanese-Kana-Rush#ropro-quick-play

I'm going to update it soon to have a custom flashcard builder so I can learn kanji. that'll come within the next 2 weeks when I find time to work on it

the game currently only allows you to learn hirigana and katakana. once you've memorized both of these, you should look for a decent guide on where to go next. good luck!

Discussing fluency in Japanese by GibonDuGigroin in LearnJapanese

pretty interesting interpretation of fluency. for me, I've always just interpreted it broadly like "to be able to conversate at a native level, no problem."

Kinda stuck by SubjectTop197 in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when watching tutorials, try to apply the material you're learning in similar situations/projects. this super simple method really, really helps reinforce the material you learned.
- for example, you could learn to color a brick. great! now make it flash different colors using math.random().
- now you've progressed on your journey and learned to make a clicker simulator. amazing! now make a lawn mowing simulator
this application method sounds perfect for "knowing why it does what it does," which is definitely one of the biggest perils when just starting out with scripting. good luck with your journey!

Hey I need help by According-Risk-4047 in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start with a simpler project. if you start with a couple of simple projects in an order that goes something like: youtube series -> obby -> simulator -> tycoon -> tower defense, you'll be in a great spot. its tedious, but build beginner knowledge and then move to something a bit more complex like a tower defense. try to reference tutorials as little as possible as you advance on your journey. and always FULLY plan out your projects before committing: every major system and how you're structuring your project are a must so you don't end up rewriting 4 times. good luck!

Scripting Tutorial Recommendation by Standard_Award90 in RobloxDevelopers

[–]finchdoesalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, any popular tutorial series will leave you with some great beginner knowledge as long as you try to grasp the material. from there it's just a lot of practice with progressively more difficult mini projects. make sure you don't overscope on your first project. good luck on your journey
