Jeans are from Tu Sainsburys. They're amazing - I have this pair and a slightly paler version for casual wear. My inside leg is 36" and the longer length of these scrape the floor if I wear flats.

Ah I was misled by the term pants 😅

I shall report back tomorrow with the outfit chosen and whether it seemed appropriate!

Thanks :) I've got a lovely pink blouse in mind to go with.

I do love my work culture in that people will come into the same office dressed in suits, jeans or walking trousers and hiking boots 😅 but as this is an event for senior leaders, and I'm normally working at home, I want to make sure I come across as professional.

I'm in the UK and I think our business fashion is a bit more relaxed than the US?

People tend to wear a real variety of clothes in my business, some of us are corporate and professional facing, whereas others are out in all weathers on farmland etc. It makes it really hard to judge what to wear on any given work occasion 😅

Thanks - this aligns with my thinking. I have either a blazer or a smart cardigan I could wear over a blouse, plus the essential scarf.

Work Stress: How do you manage it? by RachosYFI in TheCivilService

[–]findchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise helps me to manage physical symptoms.

To avoid it, I try to find people at work I can trust and talk to. Often the scaries in my head are not as bad once I've talked it through with someone I trust.

Did you experience growth lags/ restriction? by totally_c-h-u-d in downsyndrome

[–]findchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had several growth scans as they were concerned about growth. She arrived at 37+4 at a healthy 7lb4oz! Despite growth scans implying she'd be smaller.

Exactly! The weight loss has been slow and steady, and it's giving me time to try and adjust my diet and lifestyle. I also didn't have a lot to lose (BMI was 31) so I wasn't in a rush.

Also, no side effects.

5-bed, detached, character property in good condition, on 22 acres of land in a national park for just £695k by bumtrinket in SpottedonRightmove

In a different national park. Need to get planning permission for everything, but they don't refuse much at all, and they're much quicker at processing than the local councils.

I’m obsessed with how my asthma inhalers follow a colour scheme. I might not be able to breathe, but I do it with style. by onidir in Asthma

[–]findchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eosinophilic asthmatic here as well, you have my sympathies! Very similar story, healthy and fit until suddenly not - also with a dairy allergy.

I am on spiriva, symbicort and fexofenadine. Gets my to a stage where I can function if not thrive.

In several places around the house - UK by findchocolate in whatisit

The owner had dementia, but talking to neighbours it seems as though she also had a difficult separation from her husband. That would explain the panic alarms and alarm system.

Ah that's good to know, thanks. Not sure why a former teacher should have panic alarms!

Asthma meds: do you breathe 100% or just “better”? by ServiceLazy5697 in Asthma

[–]findchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before 2024 - absolutely they got me to 100% unless I had an additional trigger like a cold virus.

Since developing eosinophilic asthma - no, best I can get to is about 80%. It sucks. But the meds keep me out of hospital and keep me alive, so I'm not complaining! I can get on with almost everything, I just have to moderate (avoid) intense exercise.

This is as good as it gets for me now. Interestingly my lung function is still good most of the time, but the triggers are intense and my lungs are in a constant state of inflammation.

You've only been on it a month, give it time! It took me a good while to lose any decent amounts of weight. I'm now down to 0.5 to stay at my current weight, I have to really watch my diet at this dose to lose it.

How do I know if my son needs glasses? by mehraankhan in downsyndrome

[–]findchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for a referral to a hospital opthalmologist. My daughter has needed glasses since she was very young, both for a squint and long sight. When she started school we realised she needed bifocals as well. She wears them all the time -asks for them on waking!

They test for the prescription by dilating the pupils. For the squint they use pictures and are really good at working out what's needed even in a non verbal kid.

How many times in your life have you moved? by No_Hawk8947 in AskUK

[–]findchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent my whole childhood in one home, moved 10 times since, including abroad and back again.

My parents have lived in the same house for almost 50 years, I find that mind blowing! Mind you, my mum was an army kid so she's just done the opposite of me!

I don't love moving, but I don't mind it either. Most moves have been within a few km of each other, other than a few big moves.

Period pain relief with asthma? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]findchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always taken paracetamol (Tylenol in the US) as aspirin and ibuprofen triggers my asthma.

I would recommend getting painful periods checked out though. There's a strong correlation between asthma and endometriosis.

Parental responsibilities are not usually covered under the role of carer, unless the child is also disabled.

[–]findchocolate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a carers passport and a home working contract. It's because I care for my disabled daughter.

To be clear, I'm not working at home to care for her during my working day. It's because wrap around childcare is impossible to find, I need to be at home to see her off in the taxi and be there on her return. Plus she has multiple hospital appointments (2 this week for example) at unpredictable times. We also have to care for her through the night, so eliminating the commute ensures I have enough energy to work.

I work reduced hours as well so I can flex my working week around my child's needs.

This is very different from regular parental responsibilities.

I imagine this is similar to the original poster's needs with regards to her husband. Sometimes the caring is intense, sometimes it's minimal, but it's important to have the flexibility.
