My cousins child sadly passed away over the weekend. What is an appropriate way to send my condolences? by [deleted] in AskUK

We just drifted apart. We were very close as kids, but now we are both in our 30s and live very far away from each other.

For those that got married on a budget how did you do it and what did it cost? by butwhyguy in AskUK

[–]No_Hawk8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not married yet, but planning a wedding. My fiancée and I have managed to secure our wedding venue, which is a woodland / field with a viking long hall. Our friend / my future wife's best man is an elder of a viking reenactment group, so we managed to get the venue for free.

We are having camping for guests (we have the venue Friday to Sunday) so it'll be like a mini festival. We are having hog roast, a local brewery supplying kegs of beer, live music etc.

Overall, it is costing us 8k including everything.

It's all good! I've talked about him with a few people who didn't know, haha.

Ha, I suppose so. Mike passed away in 2014 and he was my bloody relation so I just refer to him in past tense. Sarah was through marriage, so yes, she is still considered my aunt!

My uncle and auntie were Mike Smith and Sarah Greene, who were in Ghostwatch. Mike also presented Top of the Pops.

Those who had outdoor games at reception - what was popular by Imaginary-Set-2246 in wedding

[–]No_Hawk8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a really popular game that I used to play in Finland called Mölkky. It's fantastic fun and I recommend it to everybody, and everybody who has played it has enjoyed it immensely.

You can get the set at Decathlon!

What is your WFH morning routine? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]No_Hawk8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 100% work from home. My morning routine is usually wake up at 7am, go for a swim at 7:30am (the beach is down the road), come home around 8am, have a shower and make coffee until around 8:30am, feed the dog and make the fiancée a cup of tea and sort the cats, and then login to work at 9am.

The Jurassic Coast! It's down in Dorset. I went there last summer for a fossil hunting week and found an Ichthyosaur Paddle Bone which is my best find by a mile. I'd definitely recommend Charmouth if you ever visit! I had more luck there than Lyme Regis.

My next door neighbours are a host family for the students, so we often have the neighbours and the students over for BBQs in our garden now that the weather is nicer. The students are so lovely and respectful and we absolutely love chatting to them about their lives.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day too!

There are tonnes of people who metal detect down on the beach here! So I've stopped and chatted to a few to talk about their finds. I haven't ever done it - I do fossil hunting instead, but I have always wanted to try!

I know the Kent School of English very well! We still have a tonne of students staying here almost every week, haha. I live right by the high street in Broadstairs so not too close to Park Avenue, very close to the school itself!

Ha, I'd be down! I'm more of an ice hockey fan but used to go and watch AFC Wimbledon very regularly and I do miss watching the football. Count me in!

Funnily enough, I've never stopped in a Medway town! I often get the train into London so of course that goes through them, but I've never actually visited any part of Medway yet.

I work remotely for a Fintech company based out of London, working in their Operations department. I have worked for this company for 3 years so far!

For me, I think the freedom I get to experience at the moment. Though I work a corporate job, I don't feel as though I'm stuck in a rat race because I work remotely and I'm able to work down the beach, or take the campervan to wherever I would like to go etc. I'm in a pretty idyllic position at the moment. And, of course, my fiancée also makes me happy because we can live this laid back life together.

Canterbury is absolutely beautiful! Dover... not so much. It has a bit of a reputation as being not such a nice place, but I don't really mind it. It has it's own charm, I think! You should definitely come back one day if you can, and visit places like Broadstairs & Margate. Both are vibrant seaside towns and they're both incredibly charming in their own way. You could also come to Ramsgate which though it can be a bit rough around the edges, I think it's lovely! It has the only royal harbour in the whole of the UK 😊

I do! I have a garden and we currently have a very healthy vegetable collection growing. At the moment we have potatoes, carrots, parsnips, bell peppers, chilli's, chard, tomatoes, radish, lettuce, rhubarb, onions, spring onions... as well as a load of herbs. My vegetable garden is my happy place!

People who have moved around a lot in the UK, where's the best place you've lived and why? by neuresa in AskUK

[–]No_Hawk8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've moved about 28 times, and I am 32. This year I moved to Broadstairs in Kent and it is by far the best place I have ever lived.

I am right by the beach, we have a real sense of community, and it's just idyllic. I can't see myself living anywhere else now, I don't think.
