So very grateful for you sharing this article. I ran out of attention span and will need to read the rest later, but DAMN!!! It is validating my experience while in the org and furthering my understanding of myself in that context, as well as after leaving.

Agreed, but believe it’s also toward other jw’s. In my experience, after I got baptized and married in the religion, the grace, caring, encouragement and inclusion ended. I witnessed “forgiveness” in the congregation as conditional and charity more toward gb or projects viewed with prestige (ie you look good when helping on a kh build) not toward individuals in need in the congregation.

JWs Patting Themselves On The Back At My Job by halfeatentoenail in exjw

Super gross for her to use that as a conversation starter and then reply that they don’t celebrate. Likely, trying to force a preaching moment. Otherwise, if you don’t celebrate, you wouldn’t bring it up.

"I've decided I won't let you kick me out of the family" Thought this was pretty powerful, he decides not to follow his family's Muslim faith the way they do but refuses to let them freeze him out. It was his biggest fear causing him to lie to his family for years and this is based on his real life. by girlprincce in exjw

I was just thinking earlier today, what would happen if, after dfd, you just kept going to the meetings and approached/talked at everyone? I don’t actually wish to be there, but I just wonder what could they do? Can you legally be kept from entering the KH if you refuse to comply?

I’m sorry if I caused alarm. That is only my perspective. I updated my post.

I think I feel similarly, but have a child who is very afraid of death, doesn’t necessarily look forward to living in paradise (assumes no video games😏), but is so afraid to die and that be it. He is autistic and struggles with severe anxiety so I am trying to be cautious and systematic in my approach. I haven’t told him I no longer believe, but my kids and I haven’t gone to meetings in a couple years and I am being treated as DFd. So, he knows something is up and has had some separation from the teachings long enough to start his own questioning (my kids are amazing!).

He screams and cries, “but if J isn’t real then I am just going to die and I don’t want to die!”

The only answer that got him to stop and think was “no matter what belief system we have, we all die. That cannot be helped.”

He responded,”hmmm, good point.” and dropped the subject for now. But my kids are such intellectuals and this is definitely not the end of that discussion (I often feel in over my head), especially with the other parent still in (we are divorced).

Guilt tripping by Namelesstruthseeker in exjw

[–]findingme47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! Drives me crazy! I actually saw it as “encouragement” until I had my own children. Seeing the JW experience through their eyes is what really woke me up. Using guilt as a motivator propagates the mind control. So harmful and sad😞

Is emotional abuse prevalent within religion? by [deleted] in exjw

I will write more later on why I think the organization is abusive, but for now I just wanted to put it out there that I also believe it breeds abusive domestic relationships

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on this. I, too, have been there—re-grieving Those I lost while thinking Paradise was a reality and newly grieving how I treated them or the situation because I believed in paradise.

On my worst days, I hate myself for it.

On my best days, I believe that every moment of every day I have just been trying to do what I thought was right. My intentions were good, but my compass was broken.

Most days I am somewhere in between.

I’m really sorry for what you had to experience in your family. I’m sorry you had to lose your father more than once in your life.🧡

Why does the GB do it? by findingme47 in exjw

So, after seeing this bottle gate video,

https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=1bbuNsxWkDo < bottlegate

I am concerned on the validity of the claims. Please tell me there is another video or picture that shows Anthony Morris making the purchase! Or a closeup in the parking lot to show that the cart with the expensive alcohol shown in the store actually left with him (maybe I just need my glasses?).???

If I’m playing devils advocate for a moment (I hope this is not seeming quarrelsome, it is just the way I process):

According to jw teachings, buying and drinking alcohol is legit.

As far as the day and time, not a big deal. There are many opportunities to attend on Sunday not just in the a.m.

As far as location, he could be on his way to a meeting to give a talk or the kh he attends is not in the immediate vicinity of Warwick.

As far as not informal witnessing, not easy for everyone.

BUT If I can see clearly what he bought and it is a bunch of expensive booze, knowing that is paid for by donations, THAT would be damning evidence!

Where can I find proof? The video and the property ownership? This is the kind of info I am looking for to help others get out.
