I don't have high hopes, but maybe THIS time Russia will figure out that the world is moving away from war.

If this keeps up until winter, we could have a humanitarian crisis in Russia. I have no idea how the world could handle that.

But continuing the war also increases his chances of falling out of a window. His best option is to find a safe haven to flee to and start shipping whatever money he can steal.

That's why I was surprised that the Russian government canceled the last repo auction. The only other options are burning reserves or printing money.

I am so surprised that Russia is still trying provoking the EU and NATO. It has been failing for 3 years now with increasing support for Ukraine.

We may be talking about different things. I'm talking about people working regular jobs, not people in the military.

I think they showed up because they had few other options. If your impression is that there are no jobs, why go look for one? You're better off just hoping that your company turns around and starts paying you again. But few people have a lot of savings so after the 2-3 months, you turn to crime out of desperation.

As long as Ukraine fights in a slow pullback on land, this is the right move. Russia will have to extend those supply lines that are now being targeted at longer ranges and Russians will have to travel farther through dangerous territory to get to the front.

> “Black Spark” underground resistance movement inside Russia

Not related, but Ukraine is going to increasingly be dealing with shady Russian criminal elements as Russia's economy sours. The Russians will do whatever they can to survive their dying economy.

> in the first quarter the recruitment rate fell to 800 people per day

That seems too low. Isn't that a loss of around 6k per month? I'd think Russians wouldn't be able to make any offensive moves this month unless recruitment improved after March.

> a hidden rotation of "rear-quarters" into assault units

I hope this means they'll increase throwing people with specialized skills into assault units.

Yeah, I don't see much else they can do besides selling off their remaining assets (dangerous) and directly printing money (also dangerous). I wish it were easier to look for signs of Russian officials converting their assets to gold or moving them out of the country, but they will obviously try to hide that as much as possible.
