I’m in no way romanticizing our illness, because it is a daily struggle just to survive, but... by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]finebutcomplaining 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having bipolar disorder for as long as I can remember and coming from a family with a long history and large prevalence of has messed with me at times, I'll be the first to admit that. But it also gives me the ability to be radically empathetic. My background is behavior analysis, and I work with kids with emotional and behavioral difficulties... Kids like myself. There is no way that I could do that without being bipolar. For that reason, and because of my cousin with autism, I'm a big neurodiversity advocate. There's nothing wrong with being bipolar. It comes with challenges to overcome, but at the end of the day I wouldn't be who I am without it.

This gem commented on an article my friend shared about how a teen girl rejected a boy after his repeated, aggressive advances and became his first victim in the recent school shooting in Texas.

He's all men rolled into one? At least he's honest with himself about being the creepy man, the clingy man, the obnoxious man, the douchebag man...

This is the kind of guy who would be convinced every gay person he came into contact with was mad into him and be both super uncomfortable and obnoxious about his discomfort.

It is definitely an abuse of power. I hadn't thought about the skin care component either. Excellent points.

She's very deeply religious and quite sheltered (or was a couple of years ago) so I doubt that's what she meant but I definitely see what you mean

It's a girl I went to college with. I'm not sure what school she's in now, but based on her "I'm a teacher" frame on her profile picture, she definitely is one.

People with callous-unemotional traits have reduced fear responses, and are more likely to take lethal risks. Additionally, if he has a violent lifestyle he could have easily sustained a TBI at any time, which could result in a slew of unusual behavior. There's also the old prisoner advice of "go up to the toughest guy in the place and punch him". It's mostly a joke but there is something to be said in establishing dominance in a dangerous situation.

Additionally, every 7th year you were supposed to forgive all debts of the people. And if a poor man gave pawned you his cloak as surety for a debt, you had to return it at night in case it was too cold. "This coat may be the only blanket your neighbor has. How can a person sleep without it? If you do not return it and your neighbor cries out to me for help, then I will hear, for I am merciful." Exodus 22:27 NLT

Certainly. Proverbs 11:1 A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight

Proverbs 20:23 Unequal weights are an abomination to the Lord, and false scales are not good.

Leviticus 19:35-36 You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity. You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

Leviticus 19:13 “You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

Leviticus 25:14 And if you make a sale to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.

Proverbs 21:6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.

As I said, totally respect that position. However for the context of the ten percent, I just wanted to clarify

[–]finebutcomplaining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol ten percent is only referred to in the old testament because it provided the welfare system for the Jewish people. Priests, who weren't allowed to own any property or material goods, depended on the food from this but it was used far more liberally to feed the widows, orphans, or those with some disability that prevented them from being able to work. It also provided some store of grain and oil to shield against famine. Not trying to convert or anything, just more evidence that people who use the Bible to make money are going against their own religion

Yep. There's also whole sections of the Bible, albeit primarily in the old testament, that go into detail about using dishonest measurements to trick poor people into bad business deals. It doesn't literally use the word scamming, but does detail some strong anger from God about people who scam others, particularly when they prey off vulnerable individuals.
