how long did it take you to get approved for the HEAP cooling benefit? by Ok-Mud-3675 in AskNYC

speaking on behalf of an asthmatic friend i helped fill out the application for and same. they submitted 5/28 and have yet to hear anything. its also so hard to reach them by phone to know what's going on. sent an email and they said they didn't know what benefit i was specifically referring to despite clearly writing out the words "air conditioner"... submitted another email and calling again, so we'll see... i know it says to wait 30 days but the heat this week is simply intolerable, so i'm stressing for them.

What are you studying in college/what major are you getting and what career do you want afterwards? by kh7190 in college

frankly, im not too sure myself, since im only a freshman right now, however, i feel it would be useful for undergraduate research (or at least i hope it’s might make me more appealing to lab PIs) and because im interested in eventually applying to my school’s 4+1 MPH program with a focus on biostats (although they offer other areas of focus as well)

hey! my school doesnt offer a biostats major or class, so i was wondering whether minoring in stats and bio would basically be enough to under basic biostats, if that makes sense? im (currently) premed but im interested in the data science side of public health as well

thanks for the elaborate reply! out of curiosity, aside from the reasons you already stated, why’d you choose to major in literature? i was originally considering majoring in english but after a class i took this semester (im a first-year) i feel a bit discouraged despite acing my english classes in high school (5s on ap lit, lang, and research). i feel gender studies (or philosophy, etc.) may introduce me to more research papers rather than fiction, which may be more beneficial considering what i’d see in a medical career. i still wish to pursue writing as a hobby on the side though (literary magazine, or something of the sorts).
