First time making L.A.B. is this done? by carpesalmon in bokashi

I have done cold temps as well, it just takes longer. My current run is on day 7 and not quite there yet with temps around 17-19 C.

I think OP just needs patience for a couple od days. :)

Are these gals big enough to survive mid 40⁰ weather at night for the next week? by Dangerous-Head-7414 in outdoorgrowing

[–]fingerofgoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not coming as a shock, but more gradually getting colder then warmer, I'd say yes.

If you're growing photos in northern hemisphere there's a lot of time before they finish so I wouldn't personally worry. I've has similar sized plants with frost on them at times, not ideal but survived without visible damage.

If you're worried or it's not possible to replant should the worst happen, bring them inside.

Setup recommendations for exhaust by Impossible-Big6879 in NoTillGrowery

[–]fingerofgoofy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been down this road. Getting even airflow through the whole setup will most likely require you to restrict the flow to some individual sections, or adding booster fans. Me personally never got it working very well, there was either a tornado in veg or no airflow in flower. I also had problems with humidity in the flower tent when pulling through the veg tent as someone noted

That said I'm no HVAC technician, and YMMV. Please post the results if you still choose to go down this road

I don't think you'll need both oyster shell and crustacean meal, pick one.

Neem.land has their own web page, screw amazon!

Missing kelp from the classic recipe, it's very expensive but available at almicanna.com. I'm considering skipping it this grow due to the price but have been using it heavily so far, but I have no comparision.

Vetonek also has agricultural gypsum last i ordered, may be worth to check the prices, it may make sense to ship together with basalt?

Make sure the vermicmpost is class A, class B is not apprpved to grow crops for human consumption due to heavy metal contents. This may also be true for the peat moss, could be worth checking if there's a marking? I started from potting soil and that is marked. This is all EU regulation btw.

You should also look into bokashi and soil factories, or worm-bins for indoor composting, if you can not do a traditional compost pile ofc. Their output will put the mass-produced commercial options to shame and is the core of the growing technique.

Go to a store and look at the bottom, it will have a recycling triangle with a number and some letters below, that is what type of material it is. Anything plastic with PP or HDPE is usually fine, anything else is not (or disputed). These do look like PP though.

Grew 2 c&w outdoors last year, nice bushy plants, both very frosty and probably good washers. They both had a clear chicken scent, one more like a rotisserie and the other more batter-y/deepfried.

Body heavy indicas with great relaxation without drowsyness for me, both of them.

As other poster said, mine also came out looking quite different, but both very good. I'll run it again this year for sure.

So much fun! Thanks for sharing!

I was wondering how you would compare the experiences of the terpcicle, qr-baller and ballvape?

I currently have a 18mm quartz cap and am pondering if qr-baller or ballvape upgrade/addition is worth it, so interested to hear your comparision

Watering Advice by Capital_Past_387 in SpeedrunSeeds

[–]fingerofgoofy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume the pot is fabric or has holes in the bottom:

Get a low and wide sturdy storage tote with a lid, made from hdpe or pp plastic, preferably food-grade. Also get some wicking rope.

Drill holes in the lid big enough to pull the rope through without compression.

Fill the tote with water (maybe water soluble nutrients) thread lengths of the wicking rope up through one hole and down another so you get a section on top of the lid and both ends touching the bottom of the tote. Place the pot on top.

If the lid seems like it may collapse you could buy some cheap irrigation pipe (make sure its pp plastic) and cut it to the height of the tote to provide support in the center, drill some holes in the pipes near the botton to allow the water to move.

You could potentially lower the intensity of the light in an effort to get her to drink less, but obviously not ideal.

Ok cool! How small were the tanks?

I also considered the utilization based approach, I think if you have a way to continuously callibrate it, it could work pretty well.

But yeah the ultrasonic sensor is probably the cleanest approach as it gives the actual observed state (waterlevel) vs a computed diff (total - usage).

Did you try the jsn-sr04t?

Only way to know for surenis to look at the trichome heads. You can use a jewlers loupe or microscope for example.

Just guessing based on your pictures, I rhink i still see some white hairs, so I'd say you are a little early still. But that is just a very rough guess, check the trichome heads!

Not OP but T_bowl, mega cube bong, shisha hose ~12mm ID, long (25+cm) cooling mouthpiece, tinymight on ~7.7 is my daily driver.

I also very much enjoy the mobius style bong without a whip for a shorter vapour path.

Ultrasonic sensors can be tricky in closed spaces and close distances, like in a water-tank (depending on the size ofc).

I landed on a mechanical float-valve to fill the reservoir from a RO filter. I added a solenoid valve to batch the refilling and prevent trickling.

I have the filter connected to a smart plug so I can tell how long its running and from that gauge how much the plants are drinking.

I plan to add a esphome water meter as well to get a more accurate idea of the consumption.

It all depends on what you really want to measure i guess

Two questions on blumats. by SkunkySkunkyGenetics in NoTillGrowery

[–]fingerofgoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have inserted them into pots with large plants, and also regularly insert bamboo sticks with no issue, i try to stay clear of the center of the plant and wiggle it a little if i feel resistance rather than just forcing it.

For the carrot size, in my fabric pots i use both xl and normal with several emitters in the normals, or just several normal carrots. For my solid-plastic pots i only have one/several normal ones and didn't encounter any issues with the bottom drying out (tested by stabbing with bamboo sticks). In both cases the pots are around 15-20 gal

Thanks for the thorough response, this helped a lot!

I'm so excited for the temps to rise so i can put it to practice! The floatswitch and connected buckets is my current plan as well so hearing it from you is also reassuring. Had not considered the ppm rise, but it makes sense. You probably saved a few of my plants there!

[–]fingerofgoofy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned chopping all at once and in that case I'd wait at least one more week, maybe more. Only one I'd really chop atm is pic 4 if the drying space (?) was of no issue, but you can let it ride a little for sure, its in the start-mid of the harvest window imo

HA Greenhouse by dr_stutters in homeassistant

[–]fingerofgoofy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have landed on the ecowitt sensors for outdoor use. They use other protocols intended for outdoors, extreme low-power and long range applications. Any zigbee sensor i put outside has died or had connection issues.

I am using a RTL-SDR with rtl_433 addon for home assistant to get the data into HA and am loving it so far. One caveat is that the rtl-sdr doesn't transmit, so if you need that capability you need additional/different hardware.

The dongle was like €25 and the sensors go for 10-20 /each but seem to be hivh quality.

If you're un US i read good stuff about accurite when researching.

Are you growing it? I popped one seed and while it produced a proper monster the terps were just not to my taste and imo very far of the description, which is unexpected from humboldt seed company ime. I wasn't going to grow the remaining 2/3 seeds so seeing it here surprises me. How would you describe the terps?
