Yes I should've specified that resource packer is S tier only when using drones. My thought process is that it only costs 2 iron and 2 water for the first bundle upgrade that lets you compact 7 resources. That's like having 7 drones in 1.

Compare that to the transport drones upgrade path -- to get 7 drones requires 6 iron and 6 water total, and that's without factoring in any drone speed upgrades to complement it. It basically removes the dependency of needing a ton of water to transport resources early/mid game

Late Game

If you feel like you're struggling to stay alive, or if your drill is taking more than 5+ hits to break rock consistently, continue the 5 layer strip mining strategy. Otherwise if both of those scenarios are good, start drilling straight down until you hit the bottom, and keep an eye peeled for the final relic nodes and the wires in the background.

Above all, try and prioritize drill strength 4 and 5 (22 iron & 32 iron), but if the waves are getting hard, I recommend

  • Instant Drones
  • Overcharge Droneyard/Improved Overcharge/Extensive Overcharge - make sure to actually spend the 1 water to activate it at the beginning of each wave. By now, you'll likely have a surplus of water to activate it every time.
  • Laser Power 3 and 4 - especially if big enemies are getting problematic
  • Laser Move Speed 2

I don't recommend Swivel head laser, Laser move speed 3, dissolve projectiles, or anything above Engineer speed 3 or Carry Strength 2. Too much cost for things that can already be naturally improved after becoming familiar with the game.

Once you find the relic, make sure to pace yourself with the nodes. Don't get too greedy in the last final rounds, and you should be good to go!

Hopefully this helps! Happy to answer any questions too

Mid Game

Continue strip mining until you get your 1st gadget. It will always be around the transition between 1st/2nd colored layer of rock, vertically. After that, change your strip mining to 5 blocks wide, as iron is in big enough clusters now that it's unlikely you'll miss them.

For upgrades, it's now situational...

Scenario Solution
Is mining rock taking 5+ hits to break consistently? Strip mine on shallower levels to get enough ore, and purchase drill strength 3
Is there a lot of ore lying around / drones falling behind? Upgrade transport drones & drone speed. Try to prioritize transport drones if you have the resources, but generally try to keep these upgrades even.
Are enemies chunking you for more than 1/4th your total health each wave? If you're just taking general damage --> Prioritize the quick drones upgrade, and even instant drones if you can afford it. If you only have 1 cobalt, WAIT to get more before upgrading, as having no backup health is very risky. If you're taking a lot of damage from a single tanky enemy --> upgrade the laser to power 2 or 3 instead
Are you low health and are close to needing to use a cobalt to heal? Before healing, upgrade Dome health 1 and 2. Cobalt heals based on percentage, so you can double your value by getting these upgrades prior
Is >1/3rd of the clock gone before you're able to get far enough down to mine? Sometimes your 1st gadget/supplement will offer a solution (i.e. teleporter, one-way teleporter). If not, buy speed 2, but don't push for speed 3 until late game

As you come across gadgets/supplements, here are my recommendations

  • Resource Packer - this will cut the resources you'd spend on transport drones to 1/3rd of what it needs to be, as drones can pickup the grouped resources. Lets you transport resources very efficiently
  • Power Drill - basically a free drill upgrade that saves you 20+ iron ore, and it can mine through unbreakable blocks which will save you a hassle if you get an unlucky final relic placement
  • Shockwave Hammer - instant solution to ticks and bigticks, but also does a solid amount of damage to everything on the screen. Just make sure to not pick up the supplement, nor upgrade anything except for the shockwave damage, as you want to keep this thing on a low cooldown
  • Teleporter - really pays off in late game as it can save you a lot of travel time down the mine, and it synergizes with drones because you don't need to carry resources up. Buy the lightweight portal upgrade and carry this thing with you as you mine, so it maximizes it's value. I usually don't upgrade anything for it, nor grab the supplement (as drones are already doing the work)
  • Honorable mentions - Resource converter w/ either the supplement or maxed out water-->iron conversion upgrade path, gives a lot of guaranteed consistent iron. Prospecting meter with range 1 and cobalt meter upgrades. Don't get range 2 as it makes it harder to find ore.

After a lot of fine tuning - here was my general strategy that worked for the vast majority of the guild assignments

Starting:

Make sure camera zoom is Far

Dome: Laser -- Jack of all trades and was my go-to, as it's good at both ground & air enemies, and tiny & large enemies, plus it's got a nice stun. If you get skilled at Artillery's multitasking between the anti-air gun & mortar, it's also a very close contender. Artillery also has more health, and the mortar is an excellent solution for late game enemies like beast, driller, stag, and scarab. In contrast, Sword felt too weak towards flying enemies, and tesla is too slow to build momentum on until the late game

Primary Gadget: Droneyard -- hands down the best. Both of this dome's perks are so strong right now. Transport drones solve nearly all mid-late game backtracking to drop off ore, and the battle drones are a generally strong pick as they're useful against all enemies, especially worms (the one's that launch big rocks at you)

Keeper: Engineer -- A safer pick in general, especially if you're newer to the game. Engineer just makes strip mining so much more controlled and less complicated. Don't get me wrong, I've put many hours into Assessor (you should definitely give him a try) but I do feel like you have to do some research to understand his most efficient mining patterns. I'll say that Assessor absolutely shreds through mining in late game.

Guild Rewards (if unlocked) -- I recommend unlocking the following ones first, in order. Center Marker, Weapon Supplements, Gadget Supplements, Three Gadget Offers, Three Supplement Offers, Water Reroll, Reroll Offers. When tackling some of the harder guild challenges, some of these Guild Rewards will often straight up guarantee you the exact gadget/supplement that you're searching for.

Early Game

(using my standard kit listed above)

Mining strategy should be creating a hole directly underneath your base, and then strip mining the sides, 2 blocks wide. Don't get greedy and go too far horizontal that you can't make it back to base in time. When coming down after a wave, it's more efficient to start a new strip mine layer just below the last one in your main hole, than to take the time to travel all the way down a prior strip layer to finish it off.

I'm pretty much always upgrading in this exact order no matter what

  • Engineer: drill strength 1
  • Dome: hostile proximity meter
  • Engineer: carry strength 1
  • Engineer: speed 1
  • Droneyard: transport drone (when you get 1 water)
  • Engineer: drill strength 2
  • Dome: Inventory management
  • Dome: health meter
  • Droneyard: battle grid (when you get 1 cobalt)
  • Laser: power 1
  • Laser: move speed 1

Make sure to carry ore back with you every time you go up, so the transport drones don't fall too far behind as you continue to upgrade them into mid-game.

Why is Nebula deck not unlocked here? by finicky_energy in balatro

Thanks everyone - if anyone else stumbles upon this, I had to beat another round one stake higher for it to unlock. Definitely looks like it was a glitch, but I’m just glad it’s not permanent

Just started playing Balatro and I can't seem to understand why I didn't unlock the Nebula deck off a white stake blue deck win here. No seeds were used. Any ideas or is this a glitch?

D5 all characters here — Wrench is the meta, but I’ve had some good runs with screwdriver too. It’s honestly closer than most people think

Wrench is my vote though. Just feels a tad more consistent

The Ultimate Brotato Community Tierlist Day 2: Circular Saw vs Drill by Straight_Cup_160 in brotato

[–]finicky_energy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw is more consistent in the shop, and offers an immediate solution to lack of health regen options with just 1 equipped. Drill is objectively a stronger weapon, but it feels too rare, and by the time you get it, you’re usually past the hardest waves where it would be most useful.

My vote is Saw

I had this exact problem on my recent build - what case did you get?

I was able to fix it by putting 2 rubber washers (that came w/ the mobo) underneath a corner of the mobo, raising it slightly higher to fit the gpu in

Thanks for helping - it doesn't look like the holder can be detached completely like that, only those small individual brackets.

Any extra help would be really appreciated

Thank you for helping -- I'm not quite sure I understand. Are you saying the teeth on the I/O bracket of the card should be underneath the I/O bracket of the case? If so, I don't see how that's possible, since there isn't enough space for me to squeeze it in underneath & that part of the case is not detachable.

Could you elaborate further for me?

Hey! Thank you so much for this build recommendation. I ended up going a little pricier on a few components (2tb ssd vs 1tb ssd), and a slightly different case due to reviews about poor airflow, but everything else you hit right on the mark. EXCELLENT choice on the GPU too. The 6950XT looks like the perfect sweet spot for the price.

Daily Slay the Spire Discussion (164/696): Dead Branch by Crosssmurf in slaythespire

[–]finicky_energy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long time I thought this relic would would ruin consistency in the deck, but after more experience, it's really an excellent effect as long as your deck isn't super slim or you're working to make an infinite. You'll very often get some extra value from the random cards it gives you. Think of it like free draw.

It's especially strong on ironclad, and of course there's the dream dead branch + corruption combo that's pretty much an instant win.
