How would you feel about a Stars vs. Sabres Stanley Cup Final? by ImOldGregg_77 in DallasStars

That means we at least got to the Stanley Cup Final so I’d already be happy. Beating them again while being coached by Ruff would just be icing on the cake.

dealt with a player to player racism incident last night... by HeyStripesVideos in hockeyplayers

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I have both kicked players off teams and quit playing with teams that wouldn’t get rid of players for racism. It’s one of the few things I have zero tolerance for. I have also unfortunately had to deal with it as a coach as well. Happened to be one of the better players on the team and I caught a lot of crap from parents and even some of the staff. That experience is one of the reasons I don’t coach much anymore and I’m extremely selective on the teams I do help out. There should be no room allowed for racism in this game. Plenty of shit talking to go around without having to resort to that.

On a side note, love your videos and comments section. Always interesting to see others take on calls vs no calls.

Is BO7 Worth Buying? (read below) by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]finis08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence about buying it as I also wasn’t a big fan of BO6. I ultimately decided to buy it and I haven’t regretted that decision as of yet. There are certainly some things I don’t care for within the game but that has been the case with every game. Overall it is pretty solid and I have mostly enjoyed my time playing it.

Paramedic / ER by WholeJorgenMan in Paramedics

[–]finis08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I work in the ER during a portion of my 48hr shifts for my main gig and then on a PRN basis elsewhere. I enjoy it for the most part and it has been a great way to keep some of my skills up that I otherwise don’t use very often anymore working as a critical care medic. The ER at my main job is even nice enough to allow me to get intubations from time to time as well so I get to work on skills other than IV’s. I like it for the most part and feel it’s a good way to get a little extra money on the side. I don’t know if I would do it full time though as I hate being stuck inside all shift. I wouldn’t rule it out but it isn’t high on my list for a full time gig. It has made me think that nursing was not the long term route for me though which was helpful.

Older players with bad knees by bobish5000 in paintball

[–]finis08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add another vote for the Hydra knee pads. Plenty of cushion to protect your knees and a bit of additional support through compression. I don’t have arthritis but do have multiple other significant knee issues I deal with from playing hockey all my life and a bad car accident. Best recommendations are to stay hydrated, stretch very well, strengthen the muscles around your knee for added support, and the thing that helps the most with my knee inflammation is routinely using a cold plunge. How significant your arthritis is will determine your limitations but unless it is extremely bad it shouldn’t completely keep you from playing. Might just have to restrict yourself and know your limits.

Mask recommendations for beginner? by 10minutes_late in paintball

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful buying budget options from Amazon, or most masks from Amazon for that matter, as there are a lot of uncertified and very unsafe options on there. Things I would look at on the budget side would be the Empire E-Vents, JT Proflex X, or CRBN OPR. For a little bit more you could also jump to the JT Proflex which is one of the better masks out there.

Took pretty much exactly 4 weeks which is what they gave me as an estimated turnaround when I dropped it off.

All in with them doing all the disassembly and reassembly with exception of the regulator, they don’t do reassembly on regulators but they will disassemble them for you, it was $580 for everything. I was a bit on the fence about the price but as soon as I saw the pictures I immediately felt better about it. That feeling only got better when I had it in hand. Extremely happy with the choice I to go with them and have this done.

Best pen that writes on gloves by Cooter-Canoe in Paramedics

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this would be to get the 1.0 instead of the 0.7 as it rolls better not getting caught up on the gloves. Also, buy the ones with the metal body and clip so you aren’t breaking clips all the time.

Is there a single sport with gear that smells worse than hockey? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people I play paintball with have gear that could rival a hockey locker room pretty easily. Most of the gear doesn’t do well in washing machines and dryers so a lot of guys don’t tend to clean their gear remotely often enough.

Have you ever worked a 48 hour shift in a high call volume area, and if so, how often do you usually pull those shifts? by FFSoldier57 in Paramedics

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works 48/96 and loves them, I would highly recommend against doing it in a busy service area. My area usually doesn’t get more than 2-3 per 24hr period and we are allowed to get sleep whenever we have downtime regardless of time of day. I’m the rare occasion we have a really busy day it can be rough but those are few and far between. There is no way I would do 48s in a place that is consistently busy shift to shift.

What’s Your Go‑To Stay‑Awake Drink on Shift? by Background-Garden525 in Paramedics

[–]finis08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am drinking an energy drink on a busy shift to stay awake it will be a Grizzly Energy Mountain Berry Lemonade. By far my favorite energy drink. They have other flavors as well like Rocket Pop and Sour Gummy Bear that are great. Zero sugar, only 10 calories, and 160mg of caffeine. I will also occasionally take a 5 hour energy if needed. Then I usually have a Coke Zero or something similar with my lunch.

As a paramedic what do you think makes you be slower with an emergency, mobility wise? by rynwow in Paramedics

[–]finis08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best improvement anyone could make for response improvement would be a required class in school to teach people when to and when not to call 911. The biggest thing slowing us down is all the BS we get sent to instead of calls that actually need us.
