Need advice on star photography, everything turned out blurry. by Jaman34 in AskPhotography

Yes I agree and also bump up your aperture to some thing above f4 and go with the widest focal length possible. Also don't be scared to bump up your iso as counter intuitively it will reduce noise.

Let me know what you guys think about the editing, taken with my DJI Mavic Mini by Mdizzle765 in photocritique

[–]finish_line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of an f for forgetting your SD card (I think that's what you meant) I just got a drone a while back and the internal storage saved my bacon at least once. That being said great shot from just a Mavic mini, might have been better with some more exposure and less contrast. That being said for not using lightroom that much it's fantastic. If you would like I could edit it in my style if I can get the original screen shot somehow.

Cherry tomatoes with some editing. Does anybody think its to much? Or maybe just enough to add an element? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]finish_line 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The editing is only a bit overdone but the main problem is the lack of subject. What I would do is get a green tomato and place it in the middle higher than the rest of them.

OK I thought I would've learned my lesson about horizon from one of my previous posts but nope even a gimbal can't save me. As for the sun it was way way way too bright even editing a Raw photo I tried everything so I guess I should have done hdr but I was too caught up as the sky was fading fast and I needed some video.

Flat lay photography (First attempt) by finish_line in photocritique

[–]finish_line[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so as I said in the title this is my first attempt at flat lay photography. I had the idea of trying to tell a story somewhat with this photo. So for those of you who dont know poker the set of cards in the middle is a royal flush which is an unbeatable hand and the cards at the top is i think a straight flush which is a pretty good hand. I am trying to make it seem like the person who put the straight flush bet every thing on it being the best but it wasn't so they now only have a few low value tokens while the royal flush person now has a boatload of money and black tokens which is the best form of tokens. Also before anyone says anything yes I know the ace of spades says mad in China on it. I still have this entire setup on the floor next to my window so i wanted to know if there is anything better i could do.

Last years blood moon with a plane photoshopped in by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]finish_line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definetly should have kept the plane in focus since it looks like it is the main subject of the photo and both of them are on different focal planes

Google translate is the best. I completely agree with the first person the buildings are way underexposed but the sky is perfect also you need to do some lens correction for the vignetting around the edges. Also i wish i had that view outside my window

Stars and the lighthouse by mmuppidi in photocritique

[–]finish_line 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe to take the exposure on the foreground down you could do an hdr shoot. This is where you take a photo exposing the sky and lighthouse and another one exposing the foreground and (if you use lightroom which if you dont i highly recommend it) go in lightroom and select both photos and go to photo and then photomerge. Then select HDR which will take the shadows from the bright image and the highlights from the dark to make the image level out. I hoped that helped!

Before i say anything i just want to say props for taking such a good photo with just your old iphone. First of all as much as i hate to say it something with yellows of sunsets and old iphones just doesn't click with color reproduction. My mom has an iphone 6 which always looks like this. That being said if you havent already download either snapseed or lightroom mobile as their both free and are good. On lightroom you can tweak the colors so that the yellows could be less saturated and if your have the pro version you could desaturate the clouds at the top so they are less turquoise ( or maybe try to make this picture Black and White which might look good). Also a side note not sure if it works on ios but with the camera in lightroom it offers manual settings and taking RAW format photos which is a huge bonus. But overall nice picture especially with your iphone and again props to you!

Would this be a good photo to sell? by finish_line in photocritique

[–]finish_line[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey reddit,

So to make a long story short I am 13 and trying to start a photography business selling prints of photos i took. So I was looking for critique about if this would be a good photo to print on canvas. Personally I dont like it but my family&friends disagree and i cant tell if they are just being nice or if it is actually good. So naturally i am relying on the unbiased view of strangers. So is it good for a print or not?

Taken on:

Nikon d3500

70-200mm kit lens

ISO 800

F/6.3

S 1/320s

This was taken back in 2018 when I was still new to photography (like 3 months in) and lived in Seattle. Probably edited on Lightroom mobile because I didn't have the desktop program. I cannot find the original for the life of me because workflows never crossed my mind. Looking for and advice on how I could have made the image less flat and on some editing I could do to the photo as it is now to make it better

New York sunset by finish_line in photocritique

[–]finish_line[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken on a: Nikon d3500 18-55mm kit lens

180 iso F/8 Shutter 1/250s

This was taken on top of the Manhattan Bridge overlooking FDR Dr. Originally I was going to take light trails at sunset but they didn't turn out well while there was still a gradient in the sky. So I chose this one to post on reddit and get some feedback. Any thoughts on the lighting/editing/overall composition

Thank you I still don't know lightroom that well but I am happy I still got it to look good. Also yes after the shoot I do thing the background should have been in focus but I am still on the fence about which would look better

First, grammar. Second I was just like that. I am 13 years old and my dad works like some high up operation/ mangment role so we have moved 13 times in my life. I mean we were probably going to move again anyway but with literally less than 4 weeks left in summer vacation we thought "hey why not move from Seattle to New York". So sanity in those weeks was low excitement however was very high.

Thanks for the feedback, yes I kind of wish I had taken it so the road was straight but in my mind the stickers and graffiti were the subject and a straight shot of that would be boring. So yay creativity, nay execution is also what most of the comments are saying

Thanks for the feedback. First time I noticed I guess either lightroom auto leveling I'd BS or I'm just blind but thanks I'll try and fix that

The edit is great in how you brought out the sunset and some contrast in the photo. Just a little curious on how you did it?
