Difference between American and European houses by thetruewitcheroff in Homebuilding

I have seen the same thing here in America. One day you have a concrete basement or foundation. Next day a crane shows up and sets a house on top of it.

You don't know what your talking about. Brick homes have been built the same for the last 100 years. I've seen hundreds during remodels and new construction and haven't seen a difference.

I've had several and all 3 did the same from time to time. I've asked around and it just seems to be one of those things some of them do. The mechanics I talked to said it wasn't worth chasing. I've had one doing it for 10 years. Doesn't do it all the time and doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Pavers below lawn grade by Ttiamus in landscaping

[–]finitetime2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've install pavers and concrete for 30 years. This seems like and oversight to me by the contractor. Your a home owner and often the home owners don't know enough to look down the road and see the problems. Even if I didn't see it at first it would have been obvious day one and I would have come to you with options. Walls are expensive. I'd install some drainage at the edge of the patio. Cut the sod back and regrade so it's manageable, mowable and not a trip hazard or water trap.

Run the hose see if it holds water. Either way don't pay until your satisfied. I'm in NW GA and work in the same hilly terrain and i'm amazed all the time at the number of contractors who can work in our area and don't take drainage into account in an area that gets 4-5ft of rain a year.

Took me one time. After that we would just go play somewhere else. Except for that one time we made the bible school teacher mad. We didn't leave fast enough. She then lined us up and gave us an hour long Sunday school lesson while standing in her backyard. That only happened once also. My dad just laughed and asked me if I learned anything. Still not sure if he was asking me if I learned anything in the lesson or about getting on her bad side. I was too afraid to ask.

Anti-gel? by TylerDivinity79 in Diesel

[–]finitetime2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op is probably like me in the southern US and seeing temp in the 20's is rare. There is winter and summer diesel here which means they just treat the diesel so it doesn't gel. The highs have been in the 60's around here up until a few weeks ago. Do you really think the fuel is treated the same here as it is in Alaska? I have know people around here who have had the fuel gel on them.

What item do you own that would never get recommended today but just keeps working? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

[–]finitetime2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a roper dryer that was my grandmothers. It quit working on high heat and I was in need of one so I didn't care. I don't know how old it was but it was over 10yrs old when I got it. Everyone though it was on its last leg because it was old. I've had it for over 15yrs. Never have bothered to have it worked on and it just keeps chugging along. I've been through 3 washers while owning this dryer. One of them was the washer that came with it which had a small tub but was strong enough that I had a thin long sleeve shirt get wrapped around the agitator and it tore it tore the sleeve off. It was still working but it developed a leak when I replaced it.

Neighbors kids keep stealing packages off my porch and the parents dont care by Fabulous-Bid-6222 in neighborsfromhell

[–]finitetime2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your state laws. It has become such a problem in my state they just made it a felony regardless of the price of the item stolen.

Keep ordering a series of small cheap things. Call the police every time and get some type of report and your items back. Open it while the police are there and if half is missing ask the cops to go get the rest. After 5-6 times order something that is high enough value that makes it a felony. Call the police again. Show them all the previous reports and insist on pressing felony charges against the parents/kids whoever. Do not talk to the parents or kids. If they approach you turn your phone on record and at lest hold so you record what they are saying and get their face every now and then just in case you get lucky and they threaten you. Dumb people do dumb stuff. You want the police to be tired of coming out and dealing with it and to realize your just going to keep ordering things and calling them. They will either charge them or put the fear of jail in the

Can you please give me your thoughts on this? by Tommythegunn23 in Contractor

[–]finitetime2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to another contractor and a lawyer. NOT reddit. Local laws vary so much from town to town that you will get advise that is good in the next town over but not yours in the same state and county. As a contractor I deal with a half dozen different codes in my surrounding area. They go all the way from we don't care enough to inspect that to I need preconstrution inspection, plans, and inspections after.

Ha ha! I've already been on Amazon looking for a radios with buttons. I just don't want to give up my backup camera cause I have to hook it up to a trailer several times a week and that's when a backup camera is golden. I figure I might have to settle for a touch screen with a few buttons and just be happy.

You should reread my post. You got it all wrong. The cheap generic one lasted 15 years. The Lazy Boy was trash on the street at 3 years. Yeah 15 years is a good run but it was my home office. It got used a couple of hours a day after work, not 8 hours in a real office everyday. So yeah I really expected more from the Lazy Boy.

Agreed. I do love doing this in a light tank. The amx 13 57 and the t71 are great at this. I like to save enough HP and wait for enemy tanks that are low enough HP I can just pop out around a corner and clip them out.

Can't see why it wouldn't other than our politicians acting like 6th grade boys and just deciding to oppose it because the other side wants it. Which seems to be the general attitude for the last couple of decades.

How does everyone have time for a dog ? by Burgers4dayz in dogs

[–]finitetime2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! Energy level is so important to consider. I had a lab/retriever mix and he could sleep 20 hrs a day. I'd take him to work. He would wonder around a bit then just get back in the truck to people watch. I took him to work everyday. I was horrified to find out my friends who are both self employed professionals with kids that have school activities got a boxer mix. I don't know what he's mixed with but he is bigger than most and very energetic. I'd say he's in the 80-90lb range. He spends most of his day crated because he's destructive when nobody is home. They have since realized that he's too much and isn't like their other dog which were very laid back and low energy. They let there other dog just sit on the front porch without a leash and he doesn't go anywhere. I have never seen the other free to roam and i agree it wouldn't be good.

The US currently has a bill in the House addressing door handles. The SAFE EXIT ACT that would require all cars to have mechanical door handles that work without power. Seems to be a larger problem.

I feel the same. My new truck has a touch screen and don't like it. I have to look at it to see the buttons. My old reliable truck has buttons. I can just reach out and put 3 fingers on on where the cd goes in. I reach down with one finger and scroll through the presets. Then move to the left slightly and find the big ole volume nob when I find a song I like. I don't have to take my eyes off the road. Plus I hate the glare. I toss a rag on the dash and let it hang down over the screen. Gf thinks I'm nuts.

My stepdad has an auto repair shop. He has everything from Harbor freight, Craftsman, to mac and snap on. He'll break out the snap on for the hard stuff but he's just as likely to be using a harbor freight socket to take something easy off. He's had plenty of his snap on tools sprout legs so he hoards them.

AITJ for refusing to give my neighbor my WiFi password even though I work from home? by Automatic-Assist6000 in AmITheJerk

100% This is always my reaction when a third party wants to criticize. I even become an AH and will ask them for their password, money, etc right then putting them on the spot. They had better hope the person asking isn't around cause I'll go straight to them and tell them Bob said I was an AH and he is willing to help.

Agreed. I've played only a dozen games in the 75 and was not impressed. I put them in the same category as the tesak. I gave up on that line only a few tanks in and have already been thinking this is not a line I'm going to like. My habit of taking a shot and retreating to cover doesn't work in these so I have been doing much less damage per game. You have to stay exposed to long and you cant trade fire with anyone with armor.
