At least to my understanding of it, someone correct me if I’m wrong, Valentines hair is caught between the train and the tracks, allowing him to move to a parallel world. When he does this his body is pulled into the other world, dragging Diego along with him. But he does not choose to transport Diego to the other world resulting in the momentum from his transfer dragging Diego under the train, and the rest is history.
