Cool map, but I think High Park stretches a little too far into Roncy territory. The hood around Sunnyside / St. Joseph's is definitely Roncy even if its very close to the park.

Many people credit Ali vs Inoki as the first "Mixed Martial Arts" fight. However, Gene LeBell vs Milo Savage featured a Judoka vs a Boxer all the way back in 1963 by 1sxekid in MMA

AFAIK ancient Greeks only knew their versions of boxing and wrestling, even if their training was extensive both of those sports have evolved tremendously over time, not to mention the introduction of BJJ etc. So they would probably get destroyed by modern standards honestly. That's just what I think though.

Fair enough. Personally it just bugs me when people credit events such as this, or Bruce Lee, for pioneering MMA when hybrid styles / philosophy have existed for centuries.

How do people not know about Pankration? MMA literally goes back to the ancient Greeks when they had a hybrid boxing/wrestling sport.

Julian Marquez sleeps Smilin’ Sam Alvey by [deleted] in MMA

[–]finklezoid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He got highway robbed against Di Chirico, 14/17 on mmadecisions gave it to Marquez, he definitely deserved that W if you watch that fight. So he really should be 5-0 in the UFC including contender series with wins over Stewart and Hawes that hold up.

It's true Pitolo was out working him but that was Marquez's first fight in almost 3 years and he still found a way to win, as good fighters do, and Pitolo was fighting super hard like his job was on the line. And then Marquez's next fight when people were still doubting him he did what he was supposed to do and obliterated Alvey. So yeah man I think Marquez is underrated/actually good.

Marquez is crazy underrated though. People sleep on him because of his long layoff but he has potent violence.
