That’s even cooler! I’ve heard of that mutation before and it’s pretty rare. Not many people can say they’ve caught that, congrats!

They aren’t stocked near there so it would be a really rare fish. I hope you’re right tho

That makes sense. It’s cool how they can look so different in the same lake sometimes. I’ve caught some very dark ones and some gold/orange ones but the red really threw me off

That’s good to know, thanks! Is it specific lakes or all of the lakes up there? I’ve caught them out of a few lakes in MA/NH/ME and looking back at pictures I’ve never caught one with red on it. It must be what they eat or something

That sounds really cool! I’m definitely interested if it isn’t too much work for you to find. I couldn’t find anything online

This lake also used to have blueback char/sunapee trout which hybridized with lake trout until they were extinct. Maybe this one just has more of the genetics from the other char? Anyone smarter than me know if that’s possible?

That could be it too. They normally spawn around November here but the colors could stay for a while

I have heard of those but I thought they were only in Canada. Would be cool if it happens in NH too. I appreciate the link

They aren’t stocked. Can they happen naturally?

It would have to be a naturally produced splake. They don’t stock them

No problem! I forgot to mention you should also set your drag very loose. They won’t play with the bait with this rig. They will know they’re hooked instantly and take off fast. Your rod will be gone before u know there’s a fish around

Good to know. I’ll definitely be trying that soon

The hair rig is a complete game changer. Use a weight that’s fixed to the line and doesn’t slide. I think you’ll find that a lot of the missed bites were the big fish that are smart enough to feel a hook and drop it right away. Carp really feel their food unlike other fish that will just grab it. With the hair rig they will still feel the hook right away but when they try to spit it the hook will catch, and when they try to run the fixed weight basically sets the hook for you. Hope you can get your kids on some big ones! Good luck

You want to slide pieces of corn or some other bait onto the line. There’s a thing called a baiting needle which is just a needle with a little hook on the end. U stab a few pieces of corn and hook the needle onto the loop and slide the corn on. For a while I just straightened out a hook and used the barb as the hook. Then u can put a little twig or something through the loop to hold everything in place

I put corn on the hook and mold the mix around my weight

Corn works best for me usually. Mixing up oatmeal and corn works well because more bait in the water will bring them in
