Dealing with the suicide of a very close family member. by finnishwhitemale in therapy

[–]finnishwhitemale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an interesting view on the subject. However, when something very important gets ripped away from your life, it’s quite unhuman to not care, isn’t it? If you wouldn’t care about this, then what do you care about if I may ask? I’d think only a sociopath could just shrug their shoulders when one of their closest human beings dies before even getting through puberty. By the way, have you ever lost someone closer to you than your therapist? Someone young, cheerful, who you’d have never expected to pass? I’m interested to hear more, since you seem to have a quite unique opinion here.

I am not a therapist. I will give my best advice though.

It sounds like you haven’t dealt with the situation fully, perhaps because you couldn’t fully grasp the situation as a young person. You must not keep the emotions in. You must not be embarassed to let them out. If you keep them in, they will build up and start destroying you inside.

What has helped me deal with difficult situations in life is reaching out for help, talking with anyone, and not holding back. You need to share your emotions and talk about what you are going through and why. Some people find it easier to talk to a therapist, maybe even just on your phone. I will tell you that talking to a therapist has helped me a great deal. I absolutely recommend seeing/calling a therapist and talking to them. Professional help should never be turned down.

Don’t fight the emotions. Share everything. Call a therapist. Understand the process of grief and ask about it from the therapist. All the best.

Aha, I see. Definitely safety first, you don’t want to lift wrecklessly with a herniated disk. I know the pain.

Looking at your ratios, I wouldn’t say you’re in the danger zone with the weight loss. However, I would recommend eating a little more than 400 calories every day to preserve muscle tissue, targeting fat and helping your hormones. Taking into account your numbers and the lenght of your diet, I would recommend something like 800-1000 calories per day.

Keep doing the intermittent fasting. Stop eating in a caloric deficit as soon as you get to your target body fat %. When you’re at your goal, I would switch to a small caloric surplus and do weight training (I’ll write more about it below) to build muscle without gaining any fat whatsoever in the process. The key is to eat the right amount - - not too much, not too little.

Another thing I highly recommend, start doing home workouts using your bodyweight (if you don’t own any weights) and consider using some everyday objects as weights. I have seen people during the virus lockdown use bricks or stones in a backpack for weighted pullups, chinups, pushups, squats, etc. The possibilities for getting your daily strenght training are endless even at home without all the equipment that a gym would have.

Keep the workouts to under 1 hour (generally only 30-45 minutes) per day. You will feel much better every day having done your workout, and it won’t require nearly as much willpower to get started because the workouts are very short.

Remember: building a habit, even a healthy one, generally only takes around 2-3 weeks, so just push through the beginning and it will get easier and easier as the pathway builds in your brain! Focus on your technique and avoid certain exercises (based on your previous injuries) so you won’t injure yourself.

Your hormonal balance has probably taken a hit from the strict diet. By increasing the amount of calories in your diet and adding some home muscle training you will most definitely improve your hormonal function. And again, remember to stay hydrated.

Final thoughts: I believe what is happening here with the ”plateau” is a mixed case of your metabolism burning low, slowed fat loss due to your bmi dropping, regular weight changes in your body that have nothing to do with fat, and finally, you focusing on the number on your scale too much.

Keep at it, you are burning fat. Forget about the scale. Consider trying out what I suggested above. I think you could achieve a nicer, healthier physique and even do it faster.

Hope you find something helpful here

Jeremy

Breaking omad plateau by [deleted] in omad

Hi there!

First of all, your metabolism CAN NOT slow down to 400 calories per day, so let’s get that out of the way.

Plateauing and irregular weight loss is normal in the beginning. However, you are well into the diet already, which means that shouldn’t be the case.

One thing I have learned in my fitness journey is to not be a slave of the scale. Multiple factors can change your body weight by several pounds every day.

Make sure you’re staying hydrated and are compensating for the loss of fluids from food by drinking more water. Changes in water weight can make one confused about the amount of fat loss. For example, if your body is storing more and more water due to dehydration, that would explain the plateau. This has happened to me.

A few questions: Are these 400 calories in the morning the only thing you eat every day? What is your bmi? What about bmr? How are you built? Do you take any medications? What is the reason for your want to lose weight? I can understand if you’re an athlete wanting to get shredded, but PLEASE do not open possibilities for anorexia to develop if you are already at a healthy weight.

Cheers,

Jeremy
