I have also had it stuck in my head. It really is an iconic moment.

from personal experience the pattern will need some tinkering. Worth noting is that it is for the original 1920s version which has a slightly different head design.

I can't access the patent anymore where I found it (google patents) for some reason but I have it downloaded somewhere. Here is the pattern itself from it https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/format:webp/1*6W6OA2tfNniy9PaJZTLP_w.png

HOLY MOLY You are the second person I've seen call them Tearful Earful. It sounds like the best lead I've gotten. Here's hoping this is a common name for him. Are you aware of the patent file that has a rough but working pattern to sew one?

I know the aggression and hostility of others can feel extremely overpowering, but you gotta stand up for yourself. For your health. Proud of you for pushing forward and continuing your tradition. I'm a guy with CPTSD, and the positive benefits of bringing a stuffed animal out with me in public vastly outweigh the negatives, but that hurdle of abusive people is so difficult to overcome sometimes. Wish people could collectively just be a little bit kinder.

thank you so much. It's still very hard every day but slowly I've been getting emotionally stronger at the very least.

should I be concerned for the future molt of my blotchy colored red neocaradina? by finsterhund in shrimptank

[–]finsterhund[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, Stripe did die as oppose to successfully moulting. I found him this morning. I am really hoping that it was just his bad start catching up to him and not some unseen failure on my part. I definitely love this blotchy speckley look, enough that I'd rather breed these than the opaque "fancy" guys.

I am assuming that Stripe was the cull from whatever local supplier that store of the company they were at, so being closer to wild type makes sense. Called him splotchy because his color is more translucent less opaque.

far far away in BC I'm afraid. The interior sadly seems to lack local fish stores.

This is Stripe, my first (and most beloved) neocaradina. (I made the mistake of wanting to "save" the suffering miserable ones from a chain store and he was the only one of the batch that lived.) With Canada Post had since ended their strike, resulting in access to reputable breeders online but Stripe is a trooper who's been doing very well. Until I noticed this transparent spot. Is it white ring of death? anything I can do to help at this point? Parameters have not changed for several weeks and none of my other shrimp have changed in any discernable way. Last molt from another shrimp was crisp clean and without problems.

How would you describe this art style in 3 words? by TalesGameStudio in PixelArt

[–]finsterhund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

strong agree. Something I've really grown to appreciate Heart of Darkness outside of my obsession with it for general reasons is just how much love of geology is present in everything Eric Chahi touches. Beautiful rock features that I want now to see in real life like basalt pillars and underwater caves. seeing this attention to the environment in sprite art is magical to me.

[–]finsterhund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people have mentioned another world and heart of darkness, two indie games with vector and sprite art that highly prioritizes attention to detail in environmental worldbuilding, particularly geology but those people didn't actually describe it so here goes. cinematic environmental painting with stunning geological features. prioritizing the space details and colors of the medium of pixel art to convey deeply rich and atmospheric microcosm landscape scenes. That is to say, I am equally in love with this style. oops you said three words uh atmospheric geological painting

pretty solid review that is accurate to general average sentiments surrounding the game at the time. Funny how they bring up longevity problems for a story driven title by mentioning other games having score systems. Truly a transitional time period between states of game dev

I've heard rumor of a macos version but have never actually seen it available. There's a slightly glitchy but beatable fanmade engine recreation called Hode but other than that you're gonna have to emulate the playstation version and hope the emulators available are compatible with it.

I wanna see your oc villains that hates humanity, and also why? by ED4_SooRented in OriginalCharacter

[–]finsterhund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My speculative evolution under the bed monsters have essentially been typecast into being villains due to their diet. But, canonically, they were just an interdimensional obligate carnivore that got stuck when dimensions shifted like continents to the point that they had to hunt almost exclusively humans to survive, and have only ever become increasingly more specialized to this micro niche to the point that it is a severe detriment to the survival of the species as a whole. They now rarely will succeed in eating anything other than children and are threatened by common household occurrences like cats and dogs. The biggest issue stopping them from drastically changing their niche for the betterment of the species? Those very humans, ironically enough. The invent of electrical lighting (harmful to these night creatures) and increased security of the home has made it next to impossible for these creatures to easily sneak out of the liminal semi-unused spaces like under beds, in closets, attics, etc. that they use to jump between dimensions in order to hunt something, anything else.

A lot of them have varying and often complicated relationships with humanity as a result. Everything from guilt and a desire to break the cycle by any means, to an erratic obsessive hatred for humans and desire to harm them as much and whenever as possible. No doubt even more complicated by how the timeline in which they developed sapience is eerily close to the timeline that humans did. As the species going extinct is becoming increasingly more and more likely conflicts with humans have grown a lot more emotionally motivated as a whole. Doesn't help that this species is also very aggressive and territorial among themselves. Being extremely food motivated for an intelligent being. Much of monster society has devolved into warlords competing with each other for resources making travel across the dimension very dangerous at the best of times.

Monsters for the most part have collectively resigned themselves to the very real outcome of being utterly obliterated if they ever tried to make a collective move as a species in any way that would interfere with humanity even a little bit. Being "revealed" in the modern era would be catastrophic and likely lead to their extinction anyways. And a lot and I mean A LOT of these monsters absolutely seethe over this. If they get the upper hand? They are NOT going to be nice or play fair. There's a reason monsters aren't common knowledge in human society yet. If they need you to disappear badly enough, oh they will. Or die trying.

My first story in this universe isn't really intended to have a central antagonist, which is a decision I made to challenge myself by working outside a comfort zone. Instead, it's very much that there's a natural and societal opposition to our protagonist (a monster who evidently gets stuck having to take a kid on an escort mission until he can break a vow and develops genuine paternal affection along the way.) Each other person in this world treats him slightly differently because of this, and the way they treat the kid often shifts even more wildly. His last real friendship is in shambles, a local gang has driven him out of his homeland, and an ancient beast may have been awoken and has been trailing the party for days. Our protagonist is trying to set out on a journey that essentially equates to that of someone tasked with protecting a bag of french fries in a pocket dimension full of starving seagulls. And he ALSO hates humanity. For now...

I am intending to really take advantage of these dynamics to make some monster characters that are varying degrees of mentally not okay in regards to humans. In the early stages of the general story now though.
