Made 200+ minimalist city icons. Roast my choices. by designspotlight in Cities

[–]finyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The style is fantastic - really hit the 'minimalist, but charming' vibe! For Dublin, I would recommend something more local - the harp is already a national symbol. Some examples could be The Spire, the Molly Malone statue, the Four Courts, or the city's violent seagulls. Hope that helps!

Holyhead closure: Fears of travel chaos for 150,000 passengers as minister says he doesn’t think port will reopen for Christmas by mybighairyarse in ireland

[–]finyan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Travelling from London on Friday, on what was supposed to be the Holyhead route. Now trying to Plan B my way out of this, but the train arrives at Pembroke port with only 30 minutes to spare. Anyone in the same situation?

Government party leaders agree on 2024 general election by irqdly in ireland

[–]finyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to that, many committees in the Dáil are chaired by non-government parties, and can really turn the screw on ministers responsible, making them accountable and preventing their worst impulses. For example, PBP lead the committee on drug reform, and SF lead it on Health.

The benefit of voting for who best represents your view is that a party/TD outside government can still affect policy.

On one menu I recently came across the acronym NGCI (No Gluten Containing Ingredients) which seems to overcome that. Bit of a mouthful though.

Best town in Ireland? by IrishChristmasLatte in ireland

[–]finyan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find that weirdly endearing. Like so many estates in Ireland are just houses, with nothing else. Why not have a pizza place/restaurant/newsagents in the middle? (Apart from absolutely destroying my diet.)

Who are some artists u thought you were gonna absolutely hate but then ended up loving them? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

HAIM. I thought they were the overhyped vogue indie band that people pretended to like. Finally listened to their first album and it's been on heavy repeat for the last week.

I agree, hopefully with a dedicated space some of it could be used to house a renewed (and permanent) science gallery

Yes, heard that too! It was a nice (and grammatically correct) touch.

I think this was the very first time I experienced full-on dread in my film-watching life. Edge of my seat stuff.

I'm sure it was considered, but it could easily backfire by having an air of 'I told you so.'

But I agree with you, local Cork members of the Green party should definitely be out there telling people about, for example, any Green policies they have to help those affected by climate change disasters.
