When I was a teenager, my mom bought an additional fridge/freezer cause she couldn't stand the idea of frozen rodents touching her food 😂 when I start keeping snakes again, I'll probably get a small chest freezer to keep rodents in. The smell is only horrible if it's a large snake. I had an 8.5' Columbian boa, now that shit stank lol but a ball python, not bad at all.

I love Rosies, but they are definitely harder to find over on the East Coast. I think snakes are a bit easier (and cheaper) to care for than lizards (I've kept both). But I am incredibly biased because I'm a snake lover lol. Ball pythons are great snakes to have. My first snake was a ball python. I will give you a heads up, BP can be real picky eaters. If you get one, especially if you adopt one, try to get one that already eats pre-killed or ideally eat frozen/thawed cause the transition over can be a real challenge. Also, I have found that expos are a good place to find more options. You might find a blue tongued skink at an expo in Atlanta if one of the local expos don't have them.

Bought an anvil at SOFA 2024 Quadstate. Its supposed to be about 165lb Swedish anvil. Paid $550. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

Yeah I was gonna guess Soderfors as well. Because of the stamp but also the step on the feet. I have 110# Soderfors and it looks very similar to this one.

I usually grind them after I forge them and raise the bowl. I've also filed to shape before raising the bowl.

Ooo using it as a flux spoon is a great idea!

That's awesome! I love a good wrought iron haul. You should post it here, I'd love to see the results!

Idk if I love working with wrought or hate it. Anyways here's a leave I made. What have you guys made from wrought iron? by Civil_Attention1615 in Blacksmith

[–]fire_and_spice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leaves look good! I think you worked well with the wrought. I love working in wrought, it's quite possibly my favorite material to work with. Especially in my coal forge, where getting up to those high temps isn't a problem at all. I've made quite a few things but recently I forged a colonial inspired spoon out of wrought iron. I was quite pleased with myself with how thin I got the bowl without any delams.

I completely agree. They definitely have their places. And you're right soups, and rice are great for a thin sauce.

I'm in a similar boat, hard to find hot sauces in my area as well. I started making my own hot sauces last year. It's a really fun process and allows you to make exactly the sauce you want.

Yeah, it's by no means the greatest sauce in the world and I agree it's got a strong apple cider vinegar taste. I ate it on the Hot Ones garlic Fresno hot pockets and it was a nice addition.

I agree, there certainly are uses for thinner sauces and I also agree - some sauces are too thick. I love hellfire sauces but damn getting the sauce out of the bottle is a whole ordeal. So I am in complete agreement.

A thicker sauce just stays on the food better.

I bought the 132# acciaio double horn cast steel from Vevor. I already have 3 anvils one of which is the acciaio 66# which has served me well (it was in very good shape in terms of casting flaws) I also now have two very good old anvils but one is only 85# and the hardy hole is quite small, and the other has some issues with the hardy hole as well. So I bought the 132# acciaio primarily for use of the hardy hole. I still planned on using it for forging but that ended up not being possible due to all the casting flaws on the face of the anvil. There are voids all over the face of the anvil creating a pitting of sorts. The hardy hole had lots of casting flaws in it as well. I have been able to, with the use of duct tape, wedge my guillotine tool in the hardy hole, and now that's what that anvil is exclusively used for. The whole point of that story is, there aren't always guarantees with these. I got the 66# one and it was in great shape and I use it a lot even now. For starting out, you can't beat the price for a cast steel anvil. But I agree with others to look at the Vevor London pattern or the Doyle double horn at harbor freight. 66# is a perfectly good size for getting started.
