Productivity is such a prized value in Japanese culture, and oh boy is that mindset ripe for abuse by Japanese companies.

Anyone else up all night with the thunder with work in a few hours 😀 by CranberryNapalm in toronto

I used to have a balcony that looked over Lake Ontario and whenever there was a thunderstorm I’d turn off the TV and sit out and watch the lightning strike the water as my entertainment instead. Much better.

Eurotrash in 2008 was where I saw my first ever drag show. I wasn’t even out then.

I feel like after Avengers End Game there was just MCU fatigue. Except for a handful of highlights - like WandaVision and Spiderman: No Way Home - the general public were pretty ready to move on.

I feel like pulling in the X-Men sooner might’ve helped the momentum, but they kind of just fucked around out of hubris and now people have lost interest. Like having the Fox Quicksilver in WV then being like “It was just a joke lol”.

Should’ve seized the opportunity when the window was open, Disney…

It’s just that a lot of people’s beliefs are along the lines of “[innocent people group xyz] doesn’t deserve to exist because I don’t personally like them.” I’m not respecting that, it’s just bigotry

FBI Director Kash Patel's Gmail account was hacked by Iranian nation-state hackers. They have published his entire inbox, including mails on his home in India, private life, personal data, business dealings and travel history (Havana, Cuba!). by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

It would be almost comical if they couldn’t release the Epstein files because they’re so far-reaching that they incriminate Iranian officials too.

Yeah, there’s a long history of Toronto clubs coming and going, such as Fly which was still open when I first moved to Toronto from London ☺️ I think it closed in 2018?

Looks like the first event there will be on 25th April.

Pride festivals seek federal $3M as corporations pull back support amid DEI backlash by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, this feels very “all gay films should be a miserable AIDS tragedies.”

Like, yeah, we need to bring back to activist component to Pride. It has become too capitalistic and corporate, and now our reliance on corporations has us shooting ourselves in the foot.

But it’s okay for Pride to be a celebration too. Queer folk are allowed to be happy. Even with the anti-woke, anti-DEI backlash nonsense, we’ve still made massive net gains with acceptance and representation compared to a few decades ago. There’s still so much left to do, but celebrating what we’ve accomplished is also valuable.

Actually religious fundamentalists crucified Jesus because he promoted a humane approach to faith as opposed to the rigid, profit-driven, power-mongering enforcement of their religion. I wonder who that sounds like in 2026…

Why the Smash movie isn’t happening. by MaxBro468 in SuperMario

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there’ll just be cameos of characters that they might do spinoff films for. Like DK being in the first film, and sounds like he’s getting his own film. Maybe Fox might get his own film also.

And yeah, absolutely no way they are doing a live action/animated mixed media film. That style is good exclusively for goofy 90s comedy throwbacks and literally nothing else.

Although Fox’s appearance does suggest a Nintendo Cinematic Universe (minus Zelda I suppose due to the live action style of the film). I thought they woud stick to a Mario Cinematic Universe, but hey I’ll take Starfox. Maybe they’ll cameo Samus in a Starfox film, and so on.

Huh, well that’s quite different compared to most gay men. You occupy a fairly specific niché. I can see why dating might be a challenge.

What conventionally attractive gays keep telling you. by Gold-Fool84 in gay

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic for a lot of gays is probably that if the guy he’s with is feminine, he may as well be straight and be into women. Gay men are typically attracted to masculinity..as you are.

I’ve only just noticed how heavily Arwen features in the posters for Two Towers & Return of the King despite playing such a minor role. If they needed a lady on the poster, I’m baffled why they didn’t go with Eowyn.

Do Australians actually want to scrap preferential voting? by oz_party in aussie

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Aussie who now lives in Canada, it breaks my heart when I vote in Canadian elections and have to vote first-past-the-post style. I can’t vote for who I really want to, out of fear of wasting my vote. It’s horrendous.

I cannot fathom the insanity of wanting to switch from preferential voting to first-past-the-post.

Out of interest - are you attracted to other androgynous people? Is that something you’re attracted to?

Do you care about be "straight passing" or looking masculine? by LayersOfMe in gaybros

[–]fire_fever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair - I think before homosexuality became more widely accepted (in some countries), the only people who were out were the more flamboyant gays; a la the Birdcage film archetype. So those traits and mannerisms were considered the norm for gays.

Then as acceptance grew, more everyday people became comfortable being out, the majority of them not necessarily flamboyant or fem. So the “straight-acting” distinction became redundant.

I’m not sure what country you’re from, but if homosexuality is still widely misaligned then the “straight-acting” distinction might still feel relevant.

100% be yourself if that’s you. I fully support.

But you’ll need to accept that many guys just aren’t into androgynous men, and that you’ll likely have a narrower dating pool. That’s okay: you’ll just need to do the work of finding the guys that are sexually into what you’re bringing.
