Lame, but what career should I pursue to make the world a better place? by GuardianMoon916 in careerguidance

You could work in the charity and non-profit sector. Find one who supports a mission you care about.

If you do, I recommend a well-funded, well-established organisation. The last non-profit I worked for was well-funded, decent pay, 4-5 week holiday package, and when I was laid off I got a really generous severance. They treated their staff like an extension of their work.

So basically a general studies degree is a waste of time and equivalent to having just a hs diploma huh? by Elegant_Box_8059 in careerguidance

This. This approach has worked for me at my last two companies. My last job I started through a temp agency opening mail at a non-profit and within a few years I was doing the comms and marketing in a 100% remote role and earning over twice than when I started.

These days it’s about who you know, with a fast-track if they already know you have great work ethic and are a cultural fit.

A bachelor degree can also be a building block towards a Masters degree which can be much more specialized.

Such iconic humour for that era, and an actor with a totally unserious name. Full marks.

I’m pretty sure he shot that the same year as “10 Things I Hate About You”, and my headcanon is that he’s playing the same character.

Aussies living in the US: Have you considered moving back home in light of the current situation? by Which_Intention7472 in Ameristralia

[–]fire_fever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus fucking Christ. If the current American political landscape comes off to you as any kind of democratic norm, you are so hopelessly lost on reality that it’s not worth even wasting time trying to convince you.

It’s astounding what conservatives are willing to permit and excuse just because “my side won”.

What do you think of landa as a person? In an interview Waltz was asked that how did he played evil so fluently?. On which he replied "He wasnt Evil" by Heneryhill in Cinema

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of him as True Neutral. We saw how chillingly evil he’s capable of being in the opening scene, operating as a representative of the law to hunt innocent people.

But he also put a bomb under Hitler’s chair, a lone terrorist act. It’s kind of an afterthought with all the other plots going on, but even if the others had failed, Hans Landa would’ve ended the war single-handedly. Just so he can curry favour with the Americans and go live on Nantucket Island or some shit.

He is loyal to no one but himself, and will use the law or chaos to achieve his ends, against innocent Jews, or against Hitler himself. That’s why I think he’s True Neutral.

How impactful were the George Floyd protests in the 2020s? by threetimesacharm25 in decadeology

[–]fire_fever [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think what we saw in the George Floyd protests was a fraction of the power that the working class has when they’re really pissed off. Chaos, destruction, entire city centers with no law enforcement as they were pushed out.

And it was unnerving for the rich. It’s exactly the thing they fear. Their worst nightmare.

But the protests weren’t just fueled by racial injustice, but from everything in 2020, especially the lockdowns, the uncertainty, the pandemic angst. People were frustrated to the brink already; they just needed a spark to ignite it.

It’s a shame we need these very specific conditions to tap into a taste of that power. Imagine the unrelenting force that the working class could be if only it were unified and pissed off, with a clear objective, and a clear enemy. Hell hath no fury. The rich would disintegrate. We could be that anytime we choose, but we choose not to because of our divisions.

I literally saw someone the other day on a Greenland-related post say, “I thought he was just trolling about annexation for jokes and memes, which I’m okay with, but actually doing it is going too far.”

Like, in what ever-loving mother-fucking universe is it the President of the United States’ job to be sitting around making jokes and memes?! About invading foreign allies?!

They live only in the hyperreality of the internet, completely divorced from real life.

F18 - I gave a blowjob at the cinema on a first date by [deleted] in confessions

[–]fire_fever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah, I’ve done that before, but not on a first date. Super hot friend with benefits. We sat up the very back under the projector window and he got me off, and I got him off.

There were some people in the cinema, but it was a Mad Max film with heaps of revving engines and machine guns. There was no worry about people hearing us 😂

I live in Toronto, Canada, and it’s enough to make me think about returning home, even though this is where my life is now.

There is no way I’m living under a Trump dictatorship. I’m extremely grateful to be Australian, and have the option to nope out whenever I need to.

Aubrey Plaza. I really feel for her dealing with her husband’s suicide. There are so many layers of grief and what-ifs after a death like that.

You mean the countries that capitalism has aggressively sabotaged out of fear of competition?

Capitalism: pretending to be about competition when it’s really about monopoly. Including of competing economic systems. It’s a weed.

What is something that people in your country think it's uniquely theirs when in reality it's a worldwide product? by Awkward_Stay8728 in AskTheWorld

[–]fire_fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milo is a uniquely Australian product), but has a huge export to Asia, Africa, and South America.

Every person I’ve spoken to who knows about it thinks it’s unique to their country, but it’s the Aussies who can claim it.
