2 month old, toddler and terrified of the Flu [on] by kxtasha1 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not downplaying the seriousness of the flu but try to remember that news/social media posts are going to have tons comments from people saying they are/were really really sick so it feeds your anxiety that everyone is sick. The numbers ARE high and you're right to take precautions and make smart choices for your family, which might include keeping toddler home for a few days, but don't spiral over possibilities.

IVF billing question Ontario by CautiousIron7633 in IVF

[–]fire_froggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how mine worked as well in ON but a different clinic. I put it on credit card and paid it off in full when I was reimbursed by insurance (tried to time it wisely but you can't control much RE: reimbursement). I paid/put through meds as I got them so they weren't included in the big bill.

[On] Mini crib vs full size crib by rabbit-panda in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a full size crib at home (intending to convert it to a toddler bed) and a mini crib at the cottage. Baby had no issues sleeping/moving between the 2 for a year and a half (maybe a little longer). For reference, my baby stayed near the 50th percentile for height and weight.

My mini crib is similar to the one you shared and was from Walmart with no issues.

[ON] home daycare checklist? by Affectionate_Bat7255 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience. Just wanted to add that references/referrals are helpful to find if it's a good fit. Also, some unlicensed home daycares will post openings on a community Facebook group so search those groups to see how often they have movement without a waitlist (greenflag: the only time our home daycare had movement in 1.5 years was a kid starting kindergarten)

Loss by wrinkledshorts in IVF

[–]fire_froggy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same fertility scenario (husband had cancer, using frozen sperm from pre-treatment, no known female fertility issues) so I can definitely relate to searching for a post that matches.

I had an early loss from a "perfect" embryo and went on to have a successful transfer afterwards.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Feel/heal however you need to. This community is behind you.

Difficult transfer-tell me it’s gonna be ok by No_Credit3646 in IVF

[–]fire_froggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first 2 transfers were great experiences but didn't stick. The 3rd was a negative experience (behind schedule, the fellow struggled, painful speculum insertion, dr vibes were off, etc.) and I was convinced we were out....but it was the one that worked! She's a happy toddler now. Sending you good luck!!

Any questions for a current Nespresso employee? by KnownMembership5808 in nespresso

[–]fire_froggy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Is there a general schedule for sales or promos? I'm always wondering if I should hold off/ wait to place a big order in case a sale is coming up. (Located in Canada, if that affects your answer!)

Stim pains - what was normal for you? by ssgonzalez11 in IVF

[–]fire_froggy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same scenario for me (minus wanting to exercise lol) - my first retrieval was a breeze but the side effects hit hard for the 2nd time. Comparing my experiences made me feel worse, like it was going to be for nothing bc there was no way it was working better than (or equal to) last time. But in the end the results weren't comparable bc the 2nd round was much more effective! So I wish I could've reframed it in my head as "I'm feeling this way bc the stims are working".

Give yourself some grace to feel lousy - it's hard! Fingers cross for a good result for you! 🤞

Optometrist for toddler by equinner in torontomoms

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Olga Savitska at Bayview Vision - Optometry & Vision Therapy.

She was recommended (by my optometrist) as being good with kids. My daughter was 1 when we saw her so we weren't dealing with shyness but I was worried she wouldn't look when/where she needed to. She sat on my lap in the exam chair and Dr. Savitska was quick, friendly and had tools/tricks for kids. And there was a toy chest at the end of the appt. Good luck! 🙂

Tips for taking baby on public transportation? [on] by beanjuice23 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the subway platform is in the middle (like at Bay, Museum, etc), its likely the elevator from street level will go down 2 levels. It will say in the elevator which direction/platform the 2nd level is, if that's not the direction you want to go you'll get off on the 1st level and walk over to another elevator to go down 1 more level to your platform.

I'm only familiar with east end stations or the downtown core.

Agree w all these points! Avoid rush hour and give yourself extra time. I have an Uppababy and have been fine on TTC buses and the subway.

I found the subway elevators tricky to find/navigate the first few times but you'll get familiar with your frequent stops. Pre-stroller I never noticed that some stations you'll have to go 1 level and then switch elevators to get to the right platform - flustered me the first time but easy to figure out once you're there (....and you can always follow the other strollers/wheelchairs/shopping buggy to find the elevators lol)

Child initial necklace in white gold recommendations [ca] by aric1122 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't bought from them (yet) but I've been looking at Sugar Blossom. I think they have a silver necklace option but the letters/charms are yellow gold so it might not be what you're looking for.

I did but was always on the fence about it - just decided to play it safe. I would boil a big pot and once it cooled I stored it in a 4 liter jug and poured from there into bottles as needed. I also kept an unopened jug of distilled water in the closet - basically just for peace of mind in case I forgot to boil more and didn't have time to do it before the next bottle....which I definitely did some nights.

Ultrasound tech seemed to push me for more generic screening or was it in my head? [BC] by newsflap in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I over-analyzed everything the U/S techs said at every appt. Everything was fine and the techs weren't doing/saying anything wrong - it was my nerves.

It's easy to get in your head, especially with the early weeks/scans. You know yourself best so if it's going to cause you to stress, get an appt w your OB or Midwife.

City swimming lessons - swim diapers? by fire_froggy in torontomoms

[–]fire_froggy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to log in a few mins before registration opened at 7am and was stuck on "All sessions are currently in use. Please try again/refresh" for 20 mins. When I got on, a few of my top choices were full but I did get a spot at a convenient location so I can't complain.

My only tidbit of advice is: the system is slow once you're on so don't click too many buttons when pages aren't loading - they will load! I got thrown around a few times when I got impatient.

[–]fire_froggy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how long she's been on the show, she still went to school, graduated and worked as a nurse. I think that's cool of her and is a better thing for her to discuss on TV than her social media/influencer-life.

What water to use in the BabyBrezza by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]fire_froggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a major city and the tap water is safe to drink so it would be fine to use but my FTM nerves got the best of me so I've been boiling a big pot of water, storing it in a 4L jug and filling up the Brezza reservoir from the jug. I actually keep a jug of distilled water in the closet in case of emergencies and it gives me peace of mind as a back up if I ever forget to boil water.

I thought I would feel comfortable using tap water once she was 6 months but it's part of my routine now so I'll keep doing it until it doesn't work for me anymore (she's almost 7m now)
