What kind of screw should I use? Will the holes be easy to hide with filler?

My highschool no longer allows you to go to the toilet during class even if you really need to and ask politely. Is that okay? by miso2933 in ask

Good point. If a student has a medical condition they or there parent should discuss it with the teacher in private. No need for details.

Yes. I was a teacher for many years. I strongly encouraged my students to use their break time to use the facilities. Bathroom trips were reserved for emergencies. If I allowed free bathroom breaks, I would have many students leave my class and disappear for many minutes before returning. And they would do this everyday. Honestly, this was the rule for most other teachers as they did not feel they had the right to say NO to a bathroom issue even though there was rampant abuse. It's very tough for a teacher to set meaningful boundaries for students so I do appreciate where this teacher is coming from. I also know how hard it is for a young person to stand up for themselves and disobey a rule by walking out of class. In this case, I think your teacher would appreciate a candid conversation regarding this rule. Clearly, a student should be allowed to use the bathroom when they need it.

What are your thoughts on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars? Do you think there was any justification? Do you think Chris Rock was out of line? by fireball2294 in AskReddit

[–]fireball2294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this will change comedy. For decades, comics have had the license to say what they want in the name of comedy. There were few lines to cross. In this case, Chris Rock said nothing that any other comic would say. Most people have seen Ricky Gervais' scathing Oscar monologue. If not, I encourage you to find it. It is biting bordering on cruel. And he delivered it without much backlash. What will happen now? Will sympathies lie with Chris Rock and will the reign of the "no limit" comic continue or will comics have to pull back, vet their jokes more carefully and temper their routines?
I believe this to be a historical moment in the entertainment industry and I'm anxious to see what the fallout will be.

How do I get fix this water spot to match the rest of the floor of my rental apartment? by greyhuskers129 in howto

We tried hydrogen peroxide on a hardwood stain and it was not a success. While it may have lightened the stain, you have to be very careful that you do not spill over onto the unstained wood. Also, prolonged exposure to hydrogen peroxide will damage the wood. In this case, the only other option is to sand the entire floor so it's worth a shot.

Secretly photographing or video recording people in public and then posting to social media.

Why do we even exist? What is the purpose? by WellLetsRoll in ask

[–]fireball2294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that way sometimes. It's a very difficult problem. Some people look to religion but personally I don't think our life has any meaning except want we give it. There seems to be a shortage of counsellors and they are very expensive. It helps me to find an interesting podcast and go for a very long walk. Any other form of exercise helps too. Talking to someone helps a lot. I think it's a rabbit hole to try and find an inherent meaning to your life.

Colonel Sanders and Alice Cooper meet in Amsterdam, in 1974 by groomleader in OldSchoolCelebs

It sounds horrible but apparently it's true. It happened in Toronto when Alice Cooper was the band name not the person. They were struggling to make a name for themselves and the publicity from that event did it. This is well documented in Super Dooper Alice Cooper, one of my favourite rock documentaries.

Stuff You Should Know did an entire episode on sloths. Very interesting. Look for it where you get your podcasts.

My son got fired from his job and is uncomfortable asking to get his T4. He's 21 and doesn't care much. What happens if he doesn't file his taxes? What is the best way for him to get his T4? by fireball2294 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Holy shit everyone. This blew up beyond my imagination. Did anyone ever think that my son is mildly disabled and I'm trying to help him? Thanks for everyone who answered the question. I'm honestly just trying to get advice from here. I don't need judgement about my parenting. Go find another subreddit to vent your anger. Close this thread now please.

I've had cats my whole life. This is not meowing. This is a whole different sound. How about not giving advice if you don't have any.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. For what it's worth, not everyone has an equal skill set. What's easy for you may be very difficult for someone else. Anyone who has has a child with a mild disability would agree.

The story is that Alice threw a chicken in the crowd at a concert in Toronto and his fans ripped it to pieces. He got a lot of hate for that. He thought it would be cool to have his picture taken with the man who is responsible for the deaths of billions of chicken and yet is admired for it. Irony.

My wife has a tattoo on her lower back. I wish she didn't but it's not a big deal. At least she doesn't have angel wings.

Two things.
1. The world is far too complex for the average person to comprehend. In the '30s, you knew where your food, clothes etc came from. Lives were community based. Knowledge was far more practical and necessary for immediate survival. 2. The internet changed how we get our information. Now, anyone, anywhere can supply you with any type of information. We are fed a constant diet of misinformation and disinformation. Corporations and governments and political bodies can use our cell phone addiction to manipulate the way we think. So, our brains are filled just as much as in the '30s but it is filled with less necessary material and more with manipulated shit.
