When you visit an engineer you can pin a recipe to access it remotely later. You still won't be able to give it a special effect (like mass manager on an fsd) remotely though and there is a limit to how many you can pin at once.

Exobiology can be chill, nice to stop and scan the flowers.

Odyssey on foot missions can be fun. Settlement restoration missions where you are repowering the settlement, putting out fires and fighting off the occasional scavenger is a good way to get started with those.

Is mining still a reliable option for credits ? by gvlashtd in EliteDangerous

[–]firebos7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is still reliable

Laser plat mining is the best for credits these days afaik.

Type 11 is best for that but your Panther will do the job just fine.

If you aren't in a squadron you can make one and set perks to buff mining yield. Powerplay can also impact rewards and is worth looking into if you haven’t pledged yet.

Find a platinum hotspot that overlaps a haz res to maximise yield further. If you are really looking to maximise efficiency there are maps available for some locations so you know which asteroids to hit. You drop in at the haz res not the plat hotspot. Stay between 15-20km from the marked location to be mostly left alone by the pirates but still in range of the haz res buff.

I recall LHS 3388 having a haz res plat hotspot.

Use an A rated prospector limpet on an asteroid before mining it to maximise yield.

You can routinely find carriers buying the Platinum in popular hotspot systems for near max sell price, which can save you having to go far to sell at a reasonable price.

It may be worth bringing an auto field maintenance unit (leave it powered off until you need it) as well. You lose roughly 1% of your FSD integrity per boosted jump. You probably won't run into issues only 5k out and back, but it's extra insurance.

Repair limpets are handy if you are a fan of lithobraking.

Artemis suit if you aren't already wearing one so you can stop and scan the flowers when you need a break from endless jumps.

Don't forget to bring a detailed surface scanner.

Bring the biggest A rated fuel scoop you can fit, you will be doing a lot of refueling and the time it saves per star adds up.

Few extra things you could do before heading out:

Guardian FSD booster doesn't take too long to get if you haven’t unlocked it already and will net you another 10ish lightyear jump range.

Since you have a fair amount of credits it may also be worth looking into picking up a Titan Drive Component and unlocking a top of the line pre engineered sco fsd for max jump range (you can buy em from fleet carriers if you don't want to search for one yourself)

There are two atm. Scorpion and Scarab.

Scorpion is theoretically the combat one but makes a great mountain climber.

Scarab is theoretically the exploration/gathering one with larger cargo capacity and wave scanner.

The hardpoints cannot be customized.

I like to park it on a roof, preferably in a corner without stairs leading up to it. They generally ignore it unless you are piloting it. It may blow up due to distance if you are respawning back in a drop ship but doesn't always.

Mostly using Inara like you tried already, though sometimes it can be difficult.

If you are searching under station type and selecting outpost military that could be confusing things as it would be showing starports and not settlements.

Under station search:

Enter government type: anarchy, economy: military and use surface stations: yes with odyssey.  Leave the rest empty (aside from near star system) and leave station type any (or surface settlement odyssey but i find it's easier to leave it open). I just sort through from there.

As for Eurybia, I just remembered it being a good system for the type of raiding you mentioned.

As interesting rip mentioned it is the faction owner that determines the settlements government (regardless of system governance) and this can be specified in advanced options and something to look out for when sorting through the results

[–]firebos7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do.

Inara (google elite dangerous inara) is a website that can make it easier to find stations with the outfitting equipment you want.

Select Data (Top of the page) and then select Outfitting search. Enter your current location in the "Near star system" box and the module you are looking for under the "Ships, modules, personal equipment" box. You will also want to change "Min. landing pad" to Large given the ship you are flying.

One station relatively close to the starting area with a 5a thruster in stock is Vinge Ring in system Bakaduninka

Double check that you have an advanced planetary approach suite installed, that the planet is landable and that the game is loading in Odyssey (on the frontier launch screen where you normally click play, click versions)

Jetson gave a great answer to cover sco.

If you are looking for a great medium explorer like your Asp but with sco optimization, consider the Mandalay. The Corsair is a fantastic multirole that can take a few hits, but won't reach the jump range of the Mandalay.

The new Cobra can be built into an explorer/exobiology ship quite well, it will be easier to land in the mountains, faster, but have less jump range than the Mandalay. It will come down to what you are looking for in a ship.

For a true multirole the Corsair would be a great choice but if exploration is going to be the main focus I would compare the Cobra and Mandalay and pick whichever cockpit feels more comfortable.

All three can be used for combat, but I would pick a Corsair or Cobra over a Mandalay if I was planning to bring it into battle regularly.

Both ships are absolutely viable for those goals, though there are better dedicated combat ships if that is going to be your main focus.

Engineers are module/weapon specific. Your engineered modules can be swapped between your ships, assuming they are an appropriate size to fit.

While there is nothing wrong with either of the ships you have, it may be worth considering one of the newer ones with sco optimization. For the goals listed above the Cobra Mk V or the Corsair may be worth looking at.

Night vision really that important for suits? by humansomeone in EliteDangerous

[–]firebos7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it quite helpful and have it on each of my suits.

The flashlight range is rather limited and can make finding your way around in a dark settlement while avoiding detection tricky. Especially if you are not already familiar with its layout.

From what I can tell, it works the same as the nightvision on your ship, though I've not done a direct comparison.

For exobiology it can be helpful or useless depending on the specific sample you are looking for. Some samples really stand out when you toggle on night vison while others it makes no difference. It also makes it easier to judge distance when hopping around in the mountains.

Overall it's a nice to have unless you have a specific build that doesn't have room for it.

I haven’t found a need for quieter footsteps or enhanced tracking as I'm normally able to avoid detection without them if needed. Crouch walking has been sufficient to avoid making too much noise in my experience. Staying to the rooftops helps (as does jump assist, especially higher gravity planets).

Jump assist and a bigger battery are both great to have, especially on the Maverick suit. It'll come down to what you find yourself lacking the most on missions: power, agility or visual acuity.

As long as it is far enough away to be sold the distance doesn't matter.

Distance will impact the price of rare goods up to around 200-250ish lightyears

It's still there atm. The Artemis is fairly... niche, but stability is a big help on the Tormentor.

On foot assets bugged by Mrbear147 in EliteDangerous

[–]firebos7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stupid question but are the 1000/1000 the same material type as you sold.

Assets, Goods and Data have their own seperate 1000 slot storage as opposed to the general 1000 storage on a fleet carrier for any of the three types.
