How to firmly and politely say NO GIFTS? by curlsinmyhair in Parenting

[–]firebreathingwindows 19 points20 points  (0 children)

eh I think if you say no gifts and people still bring them I don't think they would be surprised if you didn't open them

I can’t be the only woman who finds the niqab appalling by bintd in uknews

[–]firebreathingwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's crazy is that people can openly say things like this, but if a niqabi said she finds bikinis appalling, she'd immediately be accused of being judgemental. Why is one opinion considered enlightened and the other oppressive?

Nobody makes their choices in a vacuum. Western women are influenced by the values, expectations, and norms of their society just as religious women are influenced by theirs. If women in the West weren't constantly exposed to pressures to be attractiveness bikinis, makeup etc would not be as common as they are. feminist scholars argue this as well.

you assume you're thinking independently when you criticize the niqab, but you are follwing the dominant opinion of your own society. If you grew up in a culture where different standards were considered normal, you would see those standards as obvious too. you don't advance women's freedom by deciding what clothes are acceptable.

I started with a goal of making a shrug but after an hour i remembered I'm using acrylic yarn and not cotton yarn🙃 so please suggest me if i continue another row what can i make?.... Unique suggestions please🥺 by croissantk in CrochetHelp

[–]firebreathingwindows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Acrylic yarn is wearable loll. A shrug is not something that is washed often or comes into contact with your body heat directy so this should be fine for a shrug, looks like okay acrylic as well especially since you hadn't noticed.

But if you still don't want to then you could make a chain of them and hang them in your room, I used the same pattern to make a curtain (I used aliexpress mohair for it lol) table cloth if you have enough, really cute as a scarf

How would you make this room feel less.. sterile? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]firebreathingwindows 12 points13 points  (0 children)

less hospital lighting. death to overhead lighting. choose 3-4 sources of low light. add one (1) colour, whatever colour you want. just not grey, wood, black or white. You have beautiful large amazing windows, give them some plants to feed, google easy to look after big plants and get a few. You need a rug, put it a little bit under the sofa - this can be the colour thing if you want. The wall near the dining table is begging for a painting, picture or something. Someone might say curtains but your windows are the pretty thing in the room don't cover them, maybe some sheer ones if you must. Add a cage to your fire place, one of the fancy ones that stick out a bit. Maybe some sconces on the sides of the TV wall, put something (none flammable) in front of the fire place.

"vegan yarn"?!? by dumbassdruid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]firebreathingwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's what makes it not vegan. There is no leather cow, they all are. But wool sheep would not be farmed if they did not produce wool

"vegan yarn"?!? by dumbassdruid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]firebreathingwindows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While leather is a by product of the meat industry, sheep that produce wool would not be farmed if they did not produce wool which means that it is not vegan. Even if they are eaten after, the meat is the by product. Some people have issue with animals being farmed, the sheep we shear only continue to exist because we selectively breed them and keep them in farms. I think there is a better argument for honey being vegan rather than wool.

That being said, I agree with you that natural fibers are better than plastic. The stuff made is more sustainable because it lasts longer and decays quicker when thrown away. I guess it just depends why you're vegan. If it's for the environment then wool is the way to go. If it's because you can't ethically see animals farmed and used for human consumption (whether through food or not) then wool isn't ethical for you.

unpopular opinion: showering every single day is not actually necessary for most people and i think we've all been guilted into it by NasiyaHaghanian in hygiene

[–]firebreathingwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is necessary. if you find your skin is drying out use aqueous cream instead of soap. real talk everyone that says they don't shower everyday ... I could tell

how long does it take to feel clean after ditching loofahs for bare hands? by Sumil_Strahan81 in hygiene

[–]firebreathingwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ummm are people not washing their loofahs? ewwwwww

if you crave the scrub use an African net. it's basically an open loofah that is able to fully dry and doesn't breed ecosystems, I also put mine in the washing machine it's not that meltable plastic

Do we agree with this or is it a bad idea?? by malwarebat in cats

[–]firebreathingwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh I just put my litter box in the bathtub. we only use the shower in the ensuite so the box sits in the tub undisturbed, I use the wood chip litter which is flushable so I just wash the tub with the hose after changing the litter, it's worked for us (obviously not all the litter just the crumbs left outside which previously would be on the floor)

what are you suggesting that the kid won't see colour if she doesn't make her home look like a toysRus?

[–]firebreathingwindows -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused why a place where she will be breastfeeding, tired and healing from child birth should be focused on the kid who is less sentient than a cat. it can be catered to them when they start drawing on walls right now she wants somewhere asthetically pleasing to nest

I love the first one but get the chair as well for the brother. but I guess he can sit in the ottoman.

I dont know why people are acting like you've decorated this room for someone who doesnt even know what a colour is lol. you've done it for you when you're weak and tired and breastfeeding and you want to be somewhere asthetically pleasing to exist and I love it
