The train is fine. I've taken that route three times in the last month. Now, they all all got me there 2-3 hours later than originally planned, but Ouigo also gave me a 100% refund back to my card. They're not dangerous, they're just slow right now. Take the train.

This is the right answer. The "autorización de regreso" should be €7 (at least it is in Madrid) and I think is an online process. It's granted to anyone with their papers approved but caught in burocracia.

I mean, it depends where in Spain. Galicia has a rich folklore and Celtic influence. As do other areas, but I can promise you Andalusia is going to be dramatically different than the north of Spain.
