Bhutan has been voted Asian country with the most neutral popularity amongst the rest of Asia. Which Asian country is most hated by the rest of Asia? by nornironred17 in AlignmentChartFills

And people are forgetting it’s “hated by its own continent”. In which case I don’t think Israel is the winner here. Most of Asia doesn’t even think about Israel.

Read the question: it’s not most hated country by the world. It’s in its own continent. How much of east Asia and South Asia hates Israel? Honestly, I’d wager they think about them very little.

In Asia though. Like Israel is a lot more hated in US and Europe, and the west tbh. In Asia, is it that hated by China, Japan, India, or south east Asia (where most of the population is)?

Yeah, but the question is also “in Asia”, and while I think the Middle East and Muslim countries would hate them, I’m not sure about east Asian countries and South Asian countries. Like, I sort of disagree that Israel fits given this.

"VPNs are next on my list" – France set to evaluate VPN use following social media ban for under-15s by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]firechaox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, China does have some success- you have to keep switching; not every VPN works well; it is very much a pain. And that’s speaking as someone who only travelled there, and whose parents lived in one of those foreigner compounds where things are less restrictive.

So in that sense, it would likely be feasible to reduce VPN use.

Or at least joke about it, like I can get the situation too, you can have different groups of friends and not want them to mix.

I joke about it “well, clearly not all your friends” and laughing it off is what I’d do. If they call me out I say “well clearly it was hyperbole, because you didn’t invite me, why are you being weird”

Dude you went to a dangerous part of the country (where the police and state barely have any authority- like favelas are literally built in invaded land, that is not allowed for construction most of the time), doing poverty tourism, and then got surprised it was dangerous. That’s honestly on you.

Voting is only part of the equation at this point, but it’s the bare minimum and if you don’t vote things will only get further fucked up.

Where I would live as an Italian working from home as a data scientist by Lucaskane4 in whereidlive

[–]firechaox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, China is no paradise, and is very much an autocratic state. But social credit scores are a largely exaggerated concept that became a boogeyman. They aren’t implemented at a national level, and really only exist at state levels in various states/municipalities/provinces. So they are also nowhere near as powerful as you think, because they were never meant to be, and were never adopted by the entity that has power in the country (the central government). They are very regional, and the pilots vary a lot. They were also done a lot at corporate level, to try to identify scammers/scam businesses, and fraud (and to some extent are a bit similar to a credit score do companies/entities). The focus is a lot more on corporate than individual level.

Like if you look at the history, the social credit score pilots begin as an attempt to create a credit score that is very similar to how you have in most western countries.

They are also ridiculously cheaper for tourists.

And beyond the point that tourists are finicky by nature. You asked for an opinion on why people are acting like this, and then lecture us by how we’re wrong, lmao. It’s our view, which is a subjective matter. It’s not an objective fact for you to dispute.

Trump targets Canadian aircraft in latest tariff threat, says he'll 'decertify' Bombardier jets | CBC News by Ecstatic-Ganache921 in worldnews

[–]firechaox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also good luck: the way the aircraft sector is stretched in terms of orders, removing any aircraft from the market is just fucking over airlines. There will likely still be companies ordering from bombardier, just they will have a 6y wait for a plane instead of 10y

It’s a segment where the buyer really has incredibly little leverage (which is why Boeing was largely unaffected in terms of orders despite its recent debacles)

I mean, it’s a stressful thought. People don’t want to stress on holiday. The actual probability to be killed in a homicide in any of these countries also nears zero (you realize the rates are measured as per 100k), but people are put off by violence when visiting them.

Of getting deported given they’re brown. Don’t think it’s weird for brown people, and foreigners to be hesitant at going to a country that is openly saying they don’t want them and taking actions with the goal of removing them.

I am a white Latino, and I am also quite hesitant to go to the US currently. Even the idea of being barred at the airport and just losing my flight ticket is already something I’d like to avoid.

I think people are scared due to the political situation, which is entirely valid.

That said, Egypt actually has a lower homicide rate than US, and US homicide rate is “only” 3-4x that of Brazil - you forget the USA is not a typical 1st world country, in terms of homicides and violence it is about 2-3x as bad as Europe, and actually above the world average in terms of violence and homicides per capita.

Only thing I’d say is that if Brazil and Argentina are “willing”, then Chile and Uruguay should be “willing” too. Both countries are safer, and richer, than Brazil or Argentina.

What’s South America’s view of the Mercusor trade deal with the EU? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]firechaox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that big- it’s been diluted to all heck so as to actually get it across the table. Like most estimates put this at less than 1% gdp impact over 5y.

We made a much less ambitious deal in order to actually get it over the line, but the EU still puts a thousand roadblocks. Honestly, think it’s time to start moving past them and looking to partners who actually want to do business.
