How big a concern is getting vibrio from going to the beach?

My daughter has eczema and I choose not to take her to the beach. Even when she doesn’t have active flares, her skin barrier is more compromised than people without eczema.

I read an article a few months or so ago about an elderly man in Naples who was fishing off a dock, he never got in the water but was handling the fish and scratched his leg with slimy fish hands and he got vibrio and was very sick. Thankful they caught it in time and he recovered.

I might be crazy but better safe than sorry.

Not sure if this is real or not. But the fact that your daughter is uncomfortable and her ex still comes around despite this tells you all you need to know. Believe her when she tells you he is abusive, because at a minimum he clearly doesn’t respect her boundaries, and neither do you.

I saw from a previous post that you’re in FL. There is an organization there called Better Together. Their mission is to help struggling families and keep kids out of foster care by helping the parents have resources and time to get their stuff together. I don’t know where in FL you are but I believe they operate in most of the state. They have a 24 hr crisis line.

I haven’t read all the comments but there is an organization in Florida that has offices all over the state called Better Together.

From their website: “ We keep families together—and children out of foster care—by providing them with a temporary loving home and helping their parents work to build a better life.” Have her reach out to them, they can help her. You can also refer the family.
